You know what I noticed is missing, if you have flagged a forum as a watched forum the magnifying glass is not showing anymore on the forum page.

Great - thanks Rick. Hopefully the members area can get it by Friday so that I can install it on our site this weekend. I'm on 7.02 right now and was tempted to do 7.1B4 but figured B5 would be much better.

One issue - which is really a bug is that the email notification of the post is actually in the posters language, rather than the language of either the user or the forum default.

I got...

This should either be in the language of the member or the forum default.

Otherwise on a large board, people might get 3 or 4 languages in their emails....

I was given the opportunity to add the announcement forum to my watchlists (knowing that it already was, despite the glass not showing) - When I tried adding it - it the said it had been removed from my list(????) - I was then able to add it again, and glass is now showing - so not sure what happened.

Hurray American English! lol...

is that even valid anymore? Do you realize how many different subsets there are to "American" English?

Why would you want emails to default to the forum default rather than the recipient's personal preference? confused tongue

I think emails should be send in the RECIPIENT'S default language, not the sender's, nor the forum's default - but the person actually reading it... wink

Make sense now? wink

Well, then... a My Preferences option...
"Do you want to receive emails in English, or, your language?" laugh
(as long as the board supports it, of course wink )

Well, I was more thinking of for rick's having to code for it being a pain wink...

But a big question is that how is it going to work with your inputted text being mass mailed to all users? The only things that will be in *another* language would be the wordlets, the post would be in the original submitted language...

Now there are several board emails that could be differant languages, such as registration and new pm, but it'd be pointless with a new pm unless the user sending said message was sending something in the language... though that'd assume that we'd have some sort of support for ubb.c style pm messages (where content of the pm was emailed to users, which i loved btw)

Finally we agree. cool wink

But my point is, if you're gonna "pick" a language - how can you not pick the recipient's language? S/HE is the one who has to read it - regardless of the language the post itself was written in! wink

lol that could get rather annoying :x...

But yes, I want content mailed to users; Rick didn't like the idea, citing that it was chosen way back in early threads not to do that due to wanting users to visit the forums to receive their pm's... though my point was that users could receive content and come to the forums to pm users back... We agreed to disagree i guess :/.

What's Rick know? (Well, besides everything... lol)

But we're not really talking about the content of the emails... we're talking (here) about the default language of the email template.

And of course the default template language would *ideally* be the recipient's preference, I would think. Not someone else's preference. wink

(Hey, it doesn't matter to ME at all - I just think my idea makes sense wink If everyone received emails in their own language - to me, that makes sense.... lol )

I'm curious how this would happen without some un-needed overhead though... think of it, vs sending emails to users, we'd have to look up each users preferance then include that language file; which could be kinda fun to watch on an overloaded server if you where sending mass emails hehe

PM's should be emailed - I find it very annoying to have to visit the forum, just to read it.

However in order to reply one has to visit - so the number of visits does not go down. The only difference being that I do not waste time visiting if the PM does not need dealing with immediately.

I didn't start this thread - I just thought, "hey, what about this?"...

...then got a bunch of smack. lol

Suggestions don't always include solutions. IMHO, my suggestion makes sense. And how could it not? But, implementation, of course, is something else... and that something else is Rick's decision, not mine... wink

know what'd be best? an option for it to work either way, then admins could choose wink... But Rick said he doesn't want a switch for everything (unlike in .C where charles included a switch for just about anything in the vars lol)

Many thanks!

Hey,

While making an account for this site I noticed the image verification and was wondering if that was already part of ubbt current features?

Also, is there any new information on 7.1 release?

Thanks,
Tim

Hi,

Welcome to threads smile

It is part of 7.1 - however you will need either ImageMagick or GD2 installed on your server to generate the random images.

If you have this and 7.1 (currently at Beta 5 in members area), then yes smile

Sorry Tim - missed that part. The release is currently at beta 5 stage - Rick has indicated that this should be the final beta - so I would expect to see 7.1 final fairly soon.

Rick might be able to give you a better timescale - but the bugs seem to have dried up, and this version is running on some large sites, without any real issues, so it is all looking good smile

Well then, I'll have to check with my hosting company and see if either of those two programs are installed. I would think neither are since they are not really related to website hosting. But we'll see.

Thanks for the information!
Tim

Actually there is a better chance of ImageMagick AND GD2 being installed than not; they are actually fairly stock features with webservers.

Well, just left my hosting companies support chat system and the tech tells me I can enable the GD2 inside the PhP control panel so well see what I can do.

Is there any information about this system in the support/help docs on this site?

Tim

I would have thought you should be okay.

The scripts are used by a large number of hosted scripts that involve images.

GD will need to be version 2 rather than version 1, and ImageMagick will need to be a recent version.

It is possible, I beleive, to install ImageMagick without access to the root as long as you have SSH - but check first to see if your hosts will install either or both - and decent company should not object.

Cool - it is just a case of enabling it within the control panel smile

Um, not sure which version GD is. I'm thinking it is version one. It is just a tic mark to enable it in the PHP configuration script. Back to the support chat lol.

Well Max of the support team! tells me it's GD2. So it looks like I'm in business. I'll wait for the release of 7.1 to work on it. My 7.02 is running just fine and would rather just upgrade once. There are so many new features in threads over classic.

IM will allow you to simply download a precompiled binary from their site and upload it to your webspace; so it's generally quite simple to install.

Required versions are GD2 and ImageMagick6; basically if it works for one or both you have proper versions, else, they're outdated; best way to check is trial and error though

So - Do you think 7.1 Final will be available by next week or what? Or will we have to wait thru an RC1 before going gold? I'm getting anxious... smile

I'm not sure if he's going to RC1 or not, at first he was making referances to it, but then he's been discussing other things as well; guess we'll have to wait and see wink

I don't think we'll need to do an rc1 for this. We did release candidates for 7.0 but only because that was the initial release of the rewrite. We'll probably release the final to the private guys for a day or two to make sure I didn't mess up the package at all, and then put it out to the members. More than likely it will be later next week.

At that point, I'll knock out a few importers, maybe put out a bug fix release (those always come along), and then get to work on 7.2.

Just a suggestion, but rather than just having one big thread for discussing every possible topic related to 7.1 Beta 5, how about (any time) when a new version is released, make a subforum for the new version (e.g., 7.1 Beta5) so we don't have one gigantic thread with 15 conversations going in it at the same time.

Just a thought.

To be honest Basil, half the posts probably do not belong here - they are better suited to one of the other forums. These threads really should relate solely to the release, not to bugs, feature requests etc....

Which actually doesn't leave a lot LOL

Yeah, we don't want to get too complicated with these topics. Whenever an announcement is made there will always be some comments. I wanted to keep the announcements forum clean, but still allow for comments to be made. The topics may end up being many pages long, but there are already forums to cover all of the individual areas, feedbacks/suggestions, bugs, etc.
