Hi everyone,

One of my member’s profiles has recently become corrupted and I need some help as to what I have to do to fix it.

My board is running UBB Classic v. 6.7.3. The URL is www.broncotech.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi

No “mods” have been installed.

The member number is 5233. When I search for his user name, his member number shows up in the search, but has no user name or link next to it. Because of this, I cannot access his profile.

The user cannot log in either. This has happened once before to another user, but I never could figure out the problem.

When I type in the user number (5233) directly in user management in the control panel, it says the user cannot be found.

What has happened to his profile and how do I fix it if I can’t access it?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give,

Kind regards,
Paul Eschenbach.

Odd.

Have you tried performing all the maintenance tasks in Control Panel to see if that clears up any problems? It's almost as if he was deleted, but then his name shouldn't appear in search results if I remember correctly...

Classic doesn't use a database wink

smile

Just download his member file and manually edit it to at least a basic profile. The following lines are the profile fields for the first 11 lines:

0 - user name
1 - password
2 - email address
3 - homepage
4 - permissions (Write&)
5 - occupation
6 - location
7 - post count
8 - status (Admin|Mod|Member)
9 - interests
10 - register date (YYYY-MM-DD)

Just put the info on each line, not the field number (ie:
0 - user name
would be:
username

etc smile

You'd need at least something like:

username
password
emailaddress
blankline
Write&

Re-upload the file as
00005233.cgi

Set permissions to 777. Rebuild the member data. Then you can edit the profile further from the control panel.

If this is above your editing skills, you can pm me access details and I'll fix it for you smile

oh, if his profile was accidently deleted, you'll need to fix the email file and member file as well, adding his profile info back in between profiles 5232 and 5234

Yes, be sure that when you edit the members file to insert the member into the memberslist.cgi file

Okay, so I must do the following:

Download the profile
Edit the profile as shown
Upload it back as 00005233.cgi
Give it 777 permissions
Insert the member number in memberslist.cgi
Check the email file to make sure it's ok, fix if necessary
Then rebuild member data in control panel

Does this order of operations look correct?

Yes, I should be able to do this all through my FTP software.

Thanks, I’ll work on this and let everyone know how it goes….

Then once you get it up and running you can look at upgrading to 7.1 grin

Hi all, just a brief follow up.

I was able to fix the account by following the steps above. I did not have to replace the file in the member list or the email list, though.

Thanks for your help everyone!

ntdoc --

What is 7.1? I thought 6.7.3 was THE last version of UBB Classic, end of discussion. I would love to upgrade as this version has more bugs than any version I've had in the past, except for some of the early 4.xx versions.

I have thought about going to UBB Threads, but it would pretty much mean starting from scratch. On a site with 6,000 users and many customizations made over it’s 8 year run, to me it’s just too much work to start over again.

7.1 is the replacement for UBB Classic. Whilst it is still called threads it is really a replacement for both.

I would strongly recommend upgrading as official support for classic has ceased as it is now EOL.

UBB.Threads 7.x is the replacement for both UBB.Classic and UBB.Threads, which are both now EOL. UBB.Threads7 is basically a complete rewrite of all basecode.

As a strong advocate of UBB.Classic, even I love UBB.Threads and woudln't even think of going back, and I was with classic since as long as i can remember...

You can import your old data to threads, so it's not really starting from scratch wink... And if you don't feel comfortable about doing the upgrade/import yourself, you could always hire someone (ahem, me, ahem) to do it for you.

The import doesn't affect your old files, so if you import and decide you don't like it you can still use your old forum.
