Just a feature request. I just wanted to send out a PM to the moderators and had to manually add their names to the PM. Not a problem, but group use would be cool in PMs.

Yes, I have a lot of mods. The board is big and getting bigger by the minute.

I like the idea a lot, group based sending on PM's...

Good idea.

But.......
How can you call it a group when your only allowing
members to send to 1 other recipient?

Woudnt it only be Admin / Mods that would benifit from
a feature like this ? Which i thinks a good idea.

But only when we can add and remove members on the Fly
as the topic is running.

Just flipping the other side of the coin to consider ?

I think he meant the admin - the ability to PM a notice to all members or just one group of members is essential (IMHO) - it would need to be a one way PM, similar to the welcome PM.

Often members emails are out of date - but at least their PM's will work.

However I would also like to see a method for deleting such emails after a set amount of time - otherwise the database size could increase out of control quite easily.

I agree that it should be Admin only; and it'd be a great idea for there to be an option to be a 1 way notice or not... Last thing we need is to send a pm to the users group and have a spamathon... Mods however I think you'd value being able to send and receive.

I've always wanted to see some sort of way to:
1. Allow users to download an archive of their pm's, on a private topic basis.
2. Allow admins to troll pm's and purge them.

But, some have brought up that users keep important data in their pm's, so they should be able to flag something as important so the admin knows before deleting.

Very good point there, and i would go with that smile

Gizmo - When you say Troll pm's do you mean read them or
troll by age how old they are.

I dont wanna know what my members are talking about lol...

Well, it'd be a privacy concern to read their pm's, but since you can login as a user to do just that i don't see a problem in it...

Agewise is what i meant, age and how many pm's they have; i mean it is your webspace, and you do have every right to monitor usage...

I agree this would be a great feature. In addition, I would like to see some sort of warning (maybe an automated PM) sent to a user when their PM box if full. As it is now (I think) a member could have a full PM box and not know it unless someone tries to PM them and can't and then somehow notifies them. If the member in question would receive one last PM when their inbox was full, then they would know to clean out their in box.

A sliding bar in their inbox would be good - green/amber/red as they got closer to their limit

indeed, the UBBdev "PM Inbox System" mod by Brett had a bar graph; in fact, that mod in general was great (being able to categorize ones pm's was fun lol)

Group PMs need not bloat the DB, especially with the "one way" feature. Just go with the "single object user store" (old Lotus terminology). Another table with multi-recipient PMs and in the user_PM table a pointer. If the user wants to "promote" the PM to the old model, the code would copy the PM over.
