Is there a "proper" procedure to follow when I am moving my Ubb7 from an old to a new server? Or should I just copy over all the files, and duplicate the database?

Mods, please delete this topic.

1. Dump the database
2. Download your files.
3. Update your includes/config.inc.php file to the new information on the new server.
4. Upload your files to the new server.
5. Open your CP on the new server for your ubb and go to the permission checker and update the chmods on files accordingly

I did all that, but now things are not working. The shout box is there, but won't post. Tried sending a PM and it didn't work. I can edit a post, but not create one... Help me please???

Was hoping to make this change soon so I can get off my previous server, but now I need help.

Permissions on your files and directories ?

They are showing okay within the CP

The cp does not check all files and folders,
your need to check the install documentation again.

typicaly 777 folders
666 files.

The install shows all passing

Apart from the advice i'm offering, i cant help.

I would until more help comes along,
try checking the permissions manually.

I do know that not all directories are covered by
the cp permissions checker. And i not sure about the istaller.

But checking the permissions i guess is going to be the first thing to check.

Can you check your log file?
You have a Admin and Mysql Log File?

Set these up if you havnt via the cp and hopefully
they may offer more help.

okay if you can try and do what it wont do what you said in the first post.

You should get some errors being sent to the logs
By posting those results then more help will come to you.
I'm rubbish at the mysql stuff you see

Make sure that all paths (including the sessions path) are set properly in the config.inc.php file in the includes directory. Also make sure it is chmodded 777 and all files within are 666 (this directory and files are not included in the permission checker)

Actually, I got it sorted out late yesterday and finally made the move to the new server last night...

The issue is that the free hosting available on godaddy.com when you purchase a domain isn't compatible. Had to upgrade to a paid deluxe package for it to work.

Everything works like a charm, except of the mail. Have not sorted out how to input the needed information for their webmail smtp relay to work. If you have suggestions on that or know of a third party program of some sort I can either input within my webspace for use or make use of off site, I would be appreciative.
