For 7.2, I'll be adding an individual toggle to disable the private messages for specific users. My question to you is this. Should this just prevent them from sending private messages or should it prevent them from receiving them as well?
I'm thinking it should be the first option, in that you may still want to include the user in a private topic, but just not want them to be able to start new ones.

I say it should block both the send and recieve of PM's except by Admin's and Mod's... Perhaps have a warning on the send pm page that the user cannot respond to Private Mesages?

I think that sounds reasonable. I made another suggestion to CC: or add users to a pm string for your commerce sites. This could be toggled in the same way.

Definitely both - if I want to disable PMs for a user, I want to do it so that they cannot send or receive. Definitely!
Thanks!

Probably both - but also see my other post about being able to restrict members from PMing until they had reached a certain number of posts - would reduce the number of people able to register just to spam people. I guess some people may want this disabled for some new members - but it would encourage the majority to go out and post first. If they chose to spam the forums first, then they would just be banned anyway

I guess I'm ambivalent about it as I have never really had any problems with people abusing PMs or spamming people. Lust lucky I guess. But if you are going to implement it, then why not make it flexible enough for both options? In other words, have an admin setting for each user that allows you to turn off PM send or PM receives capability independently, or both together. Radio buttons like this:
O – Disallow user from sending PMs O – Disallow user from receiving PMs
Then you could select one or the other or both.
Basil
PS: As long as were on the subject of PMs, see my post about having a PM full warning for users so they know when their inbox is getting full

Yes we want that as well (the "not being able to PM until a certain specified number of posts") you know, if this part is built with the group system in mind, it doesn't seem like postcount restricted forums would be too large of a step

My question to you is this. Should this just prevent them from sending private messages or should it prevent them from receiving them as well? I'm made up that Rick is asking for feedback. And its not "My way or the Highway".. just get the subject lines (Forum Title) sorted on those Emails Link
