What can moderators do in the control panel? I want to keep mine out and only allow admin access. I don't want moderators to be able to access email addresses or view I.P. addresses.

Thanks in advance.

Very simple to turn off any access by the moderator to any part of the control panel.

Indeed; one thing that Rick listened to whole heartedly was our whining about not wanting mod's freely roaming the control panel; so he built in a lot of options for customizing what access EACH mod has to the cp (if any)

Hi there, I'm having a bit of trouble understanding the moderator permissions and why mine don't seem to be working the way I expect.

I have checked the checkboxes for my moderators to have all the permissions a moderator can have, EXCEPT for "edit users". But when they log in to do stuff, they can't do anything but post and reply. Nothing in the control panel opens up for them. The links that appear there, "Member Management" and "Approve Post" do nothing.

I'm going to try unchecking everything EXCEPT the "edit users" box and see what happens.

Maybe it works backwards. In other words, maybe I HAVE TO check the "edit users" box first, and then only click the individual permission boxes afterwards in order to see a difference in access with the cp permissions and getting the pull-down menu choices needed for the mods.

I appreciate any direction here as I've been playing with this for several hours today, making xerox copies and writing notes on my findings. I feel like I've wasted a lot of time on this and not gotten very far.

I need to understand it well enough to leave written instructions as permanent reference for myself, 1 admin and yet a separate set of instructions for the mods. I don't want the admins and mods to have to come here for answers. It takes sooo long to search, read and understand. However, I'm very grateful I can do this for myself AND them.

Thanks now,

Thanks.

Moderators can only moderate forums which you set them to be able to moderate in; this can be done from the moderators page and inside each moderators profile.

As for how the system works, if a user is "ticked" they have that permission; this is only for forums they are moderators listed as.
