Is there a secret to enabling control panel logging?
I cannot get "click to test directory" link to report a success.
My main directory is /forum (without the s), so I even put "/forum" in the "Control Panel Log Storage Directory" box. But clicking the test always fails, even after setting the /forum directory permission to 777.
I get the message, "Directory does not exist! Test failed. Either the directory was not found or cannot be written to by the web server."

You must create a directory on your server, then chmod it 777 (so it's writeable) then link to it directly (full path) in the configuration.
It won't just be /forum, it'll be something like: /home/yoursite/html/forum/logging (or wherever you make the directory)

Ahhh! Now it works. I had to copy the "Absolute PATH to Main Directory" setting, and add "/log" to it.
Thanks so much!

Hi there. Just wondering how I'm supposed to view all community activities using the control panel logging feature. I know from reading these posts that mine is set up correctly. But, how do I access it to see all activity? I've set up my "attachments" folder, mysql folder and my cp logs folder. All of my test directory clicks work great. I just can't see anything. Where do I go for this? My browser?
Thanks.

Control panel logging only logs changes you or other administrators make to control-panel settings. On my board, there are several people with administrator access, so I want to monitor any changes anyone makes in the control panel. So I can see in the control panel log (of course they could shut off logging temporarily).
The only way to view the log is to download the log file and view it with a text editor.
Oh, and logging is pretty limited. It contains a new line for each panel where I make a change, but it does not say what the change was.

CP Logging logs both Admin and Moderator activities, mostly deletions and the like; we're pushing to have it so that if anything affects forum content that it get logged. A lot of improvements are coming in 7.2 however, namely being able to store the content in the mysql database vs flatfiles which extend the ability to store more information.
And the only way to view the log is not to download it, when you login to the control panel you'll see a link to the right stating the log size, if you click on it it will let you browse the logs via the web browser.
