When I upgraded to 7.1, all my feature settings were lost, including the path to a previously working Attachments directory.
Now I cannot re-figure out how to enter the correct path. I can ftp into the attachments directory like this: aerobats.com/aerobats.com/directory_name, but no combination seems to please the "click to test directory" button in the Control Panel.
The directory permissions are set to 777.
I saw a post suggesting that "home" should be part of the path, but don't see why.

It actually needs to be the full path. If you go into your paths, db & urls section of the control panel and look at the FULL_PATH setting that will give you an idea of what it should look like, and you can just adjust it from there to the proper directory.

Unless otherwise stated, all paths in Threads7 are a full server path to files; i've had several clients lost on this with options such as the ImageMagick file locations; just FYI
