It seems that 24 hours is not long enough for some people to verify their email address when registering. Yes, I think it is, and yes we have put clear messages on the page - but people obviously don't read those messages.... and we are having some new registrations wiped out by this 24 hour period expiring.
Anyhow, regardless of peoples silliness at not reading ---- how do I change it so that, for example, we give people 48 or 72 hours to verify a new registration mail rather than just 24.
Thanks.

I do think it needs a slight increase, 48 hours, or an admin selectable limit (of being able to choose 24 or 48 hours)

If we add options please give us the option for as long as we want (in hours).... as I said we have had a few people register, not verfify in time and then never be seen again. It seems strange to have such a limit.

There is a good reason to HAVE the limit; these settings are there to stop spambots from registering; so if you have no limit, and 90k spambots register in a year, and you're waiting with no limit for them to approve themselves, you'll end up with one hell of a mess to go through...

OK I see. But 24 hours is certainly not enough. Why not allow us to set what we see fit, or at least give us an option for much longer.

i do see it as a really good feature to allow it set on a specific scale (1 day, 2 days, 4 days, 7 days); keep in mind that if you don't want it on you can always turn off the email validation option.

But I do want the email validation option. I just don't want to lose people because it is too short.... just lost another person in the last day (probably) because of it.

I would like to see it 72 or 96 hours, with a reminder email sent each 24 hours.

Well it can be done but resending, tracking is a bit more coding involved than just a time period mod. Come on people give your feedback now if you want change - the squeaky wheel gets the grease they say

0 - "Thank you for registering, please click here to validate your email address." 24 - "You haven't yet validated your email address for our forums, please click here. Your request to join our community will expire in 48 hours if you do not validate your account." 48 - same as above only indicating 24 hours. 96 - "Your request to join our community has expired due to non-validation of your account; to re-sign up, please visit here."
Or something similar :X

The above would be good.
But from where I am it doesn't have to be that complex. Just have no limit would be far better than the current imposed limit. If the above could also be done, great.

definitely needs a limit.
Otherwise you would always have hundreds in your queue. Also if people enter the wrong email address they never get an email and have to wait until the time expires before they can re-register with their desired login/user name.
This is the only downside to extending the time. So perhaps the registration should confirm back their details at the end including their email, and give the new members an opportunity to cancel their registration and start again.
I think many people enter it wrong in the first email box and then copy and paste into the second one, rather than typing it out again.

Possibly have a way to expire a registration in queue if you know the email address; though if they entered the wrong email address they wouldn't be able to do that...

I prefer : 0 - "Thank you for registering, please click here to validate your email address." 24 - "You haven't yet validated your email address for our forums, please click here. Your request to join our community will expire in 48 hours if you do not validate your account." 48 - same as above only indicating 24 hours. 96 - "Your request to join our community has expired due to non-validation of your account; So, bugger off and don't waste my time again!"

You can please some of the people, some of the time; but you cannot please all of the people, all of the time... Unless you have some really dirty knees.

Many people use internet at work but not at home so if they register on a Friday and then cannot read emails till Monday they are SOL on that 24 hour limit
Also as screwed up as cyberspace is many times email servers get backed up or hosed thus emails get delayed so 24 hours and with worldwide timezones is too short of a timeframe.

Joining the votes for at least 48 hours and/or automatic follow up reminder.
Not only is 24 hours not long enough for some of our pending members, it isn't long enough for me if I need to send them a reminder manually.

There is a better chance of this being noticed as a feature request if it is in the Suggestions forum and not the How Do I forums.
