What happens to members inside the board who are busy typing their postings and suddenly the board is closed for maintenance?
Are the members typing automatically logged out and bumped off the system to the front page where the the closure notice is displayed?
Are the members allowed to finish typing and moving around inside the board until they log out and then when they log out they see the notice that the board is closed?
Not sure how this works for users and moderators. Please explain. Thank you.

I would think that it works like this? If the board is closed, its to prevent anything being entered into the database. So if anyone is typing, they can, but if they hit submit, then they will be informed that the forums are closed. Post Lost. Think of it this way, you close the boards, no one would know until they clicked for a new view, be it submitting a post, or just changing forums. Hope that helps. you dont know a door is locked until you try the handle

In general they can finish their post if they're in the middle of it (at least that happened to me as an Admin and I was able to finish my post - but it could have been due to me being an Admin)
I'm not sure as I've not looked to see what command is issued to MySQL so depending on what is issued would be how the user is affected and maybe the version of MySQL.
Then again he could be setting some setting via PHP to temporarily enter a value that would stop further open/write commands.

Admin's are allowed to finish their posts, they're an admin, they can subvert the closure.
As for members, they can't do anything, it's designed that nothing allows people to navigate as the admin specifically said "don't allow anything to be added to the database" by closing the forums.

Yes but I "think" he is asking if it is PHP or MySQL that is doing the actual prevention. I'm not sure and have not looked at the code to see what call is being made.

It's the forum software; so PHP.

Thank you Gizmo. I'm pretty sure I have enough info to post an accurate Board Closure notice now. I'm more confident. Again, thank you.
