So...I've had a few requests on my forums from members, and I dont know how to do it, I'm assuming there is some way to do it.. #1.) When you look at an active post, then go back to the forum index...all the other active posts show that you've visited them when you havent, so you cant tell what you've looked at, and not looked at. #2.) How do I make it so when you click a topic you go to the first unread post? my forums are http://panhandleexposure.com/forumThanks!

I guess I don't get what you're asking.
#1) I don't see that. My active posts show unvisited (yellow folders icon) until I do actually visit them.
#2) Again, I don't get this problem. When I click a previously opened topic to see new posts, I go immediately to the first unread post.

#2) You need to enter the forum and click on the topic. (left side)
Islands & Main Index You have to think of this issue the other way, and that is if you always visited the first post, which was a bug in earlier releases its even more frustrating to have to find where you were up to, what page etc..
So before you go trying to "Fix" this for your own needs, be aware of Round 3 of Demands.

#2) Again, I don't get this problem. When I click a previously opened topic to see new posts, I go immediately to the first unread post. My problem still exists - If I go into the forums, and there has been 3 topics that have been posted in. I go and look at topic #1, then return to my board index, topics #2 and #3 show I have visited them (Folder is not yellow anymore) Even though I never visited them - This makes it extremely hard to keep up with them. Also - I still do not think its going to the first unread post when clicking a topic...

Then it has to be a cookies problem. Try tossing your cookies. I'm not the most knowledgeable about how the UBB cookies work though.
I have version 7.1, and I just don't have the problems you're having, and none of my users have reported anything either.

Ok, this is my last shot - I'm no expert by any means. In your control panel, under Primary Settings > Advanced Options, do you have Cookie Path, Prefix, and Expiration Time set? If not, then your site is probably not generating a cookie at all. That's the only other thing I can think of.

It didnt have a prefix - I set a prefix "phe" It has the generic path which is / and a expiration time....still the same thing happens...

I guess nobody else is replying because they don't know. It really does sound like the problem is with the individual browser settings, although I know you said there are several people with the problem.
I'm just a forum-owner like you, and I just know that I'm not having your problem, nor are any of my users. Did you reboot your browser after adding a cookie prefix?

Yikes! I just visited. It showed that I'd read everything, and I've never been there before. I'd suggest that you put in a support ticket with Rick.

I think you have to register to see it function correctly. Just being a guest wont build a cookie or session file.

Hmm, it does store some of this temporary data in session files. Check and make sure that your sessions directory is writable and that there are files inside of it.

That's a good sign, have you tried clearing your cookies?
See bottom of forums, on the left, "My Cookies" by clicking on that link you can clear your cookies.
p.s. Those session files are recent to your time zone yeh ?
Only 2 session files, is it a test forum or set up forum? I'm thinking there should be more than that? But i cant say 100%

Are the session files recently dated? Only 2 sessions files is a bit low unless you've only had 2 people online for some time.

I get this error sometimes in my control panel - Figure this may have somthing to do with it...

I just realized....in the path in those messages above...Its not the same path I'm using - I'm using...(/home/pandh3/public_html/panhandleexposure/forum/sessions)
I switched the path from forum2 (When I was setting it up) To forum, when I went live...
Maybe somthing is messed up in one of the files?

Hmm, open up your includes/config.inc.php file. There is a SESSION_PATH variable in there. It looks like you'll need to make the forum2 to forum change in that setting.

I was thinking it was a permissions issue, but a path issue would give out the same results (errors errors everywhere!)

okay, that fixed most of everythin, THANK YOU!!!
Now,
I am having people that are having a new issue.
Its decribed to me as this
'When you first log in, and make a post, it prompts you to log in again, but after that it never does again.'
I am not having that issue, however multiple people have been - It sounds like somthing with cookies to me, but I dont know where to begin, or if its even a problem with my forums....I cannot duplicate it as I ahve not had the same issues on my personal computer, nor my work computers...

Bottom Left "My Cookies" Click that and then you can clear / delete your cookies. Maybe your members are referring to a private message e-mail? When they get an e-mail the link to go and read that e-mail ends with =login? Which takes them to the login page but there actually still logged in and only need to hit the forum list to get to the My Messages. I'm pointing that one out as it was one that members got caught out with too. Hope that help, but see if you can get the "Details" from your members normally the answers isnt too far away

Yeah, I was getting them to explain as much as possible - Though their computer skills seem somewhat minimal at best hehe....We're just a big hunting group....It seems to be an isolated issue with just a few members, so it must be somthing on their end....I'll see what I can do!
Thanks a lot for your help!

Did this new issue just appear when you set the custom cookie prefix in the cp? if so it could be a cookie error from that and should only experiance it once.
