I read on a post here that the max file size for an attachment is 1mb. But for placing pictures and illustrations on the inside of your posts (I think this is calle "inline"), what max file size should I let my members know is the limit? I don't want them going crazy on me! Here's a link I just finished for members to view, http://www.shorthandclasses.com/com...d0869f560fb120422326062798e03dcc#Post117 but I have no idea what to tell them should they asked me the maximum file size. Should it be the same as the maximum file size for attachments within a post?

Visit your control panel
General >>> Topic Display Options >>> Max Size for inline uploaded images >>> 130000
So put 130000 in the box, that's about 130kb but it will prevent most super size images showing up.

No you don't want the in-line to say 1mb in size, or you would have images the size of a football pitch.
(No i don't know how long a football pitch is).
You may even want to consider less than 1mb for uploads, its what works for you..
Think of it this way. If members say we need a larger upload size, and you give it to them your a nice person.
Take away upload size and your mean lol...

Wow, Wonderful...It's Done! Thanks a bunch. Another problem just cropped its head with my attachment post. When I added the attachment files to this post, both of them showed up at the lower left corner of my post as file names. When I left to do something else and came back to view it, the .txt file was okay but the .jpg or .png file had exploded into my post. I thought it was supposed to stay a file name!!! Here's the link: http://www.shorthandclasses.com/com...74037baaae950b025e4340267bef6479#Post116What did I do wrong? Thanks.

Access denied.
Please use your back button to return to the previous page.
It will stay a file name if the file size above the numbers i gave you.
If you reduce that number, you can prevent that from happening.
Now you can see why we don't have 1mb upload and 1mb in line image.

Okay, I'll experiment and see how low I need to go before the image reverts to the file name. Thanks.

I did that but the image is still there in my post instead of a file name.
It will stay a file name IF the file size of my picture is higher than the # you gave me. If this is true, I will try lowering the #.

This image is 631px x 198px and is 33.6kb. 33kb is less than 130kb isn't it? Don't know why it won't behave!
Oh wait. Maybe it's not the file size in kb's but rather the width and height. It was so big in the text box that it forced my entire screen to the right. Maybe I should specify a limit to width and height also.
What do ya think? Am I way off base?

Okay, I left my inline file size # at what you gave me. I reduced the file size in width and height so now it's 331px x 104px and is 37.5kb as a .png file. I uploaded the new file and pressed Control F5 3 times and when I went to check if the image had turned back to a filename, it had not. It also says two downloads in parenthesis (2 downloads); does this mean I uploaded 2 files and it's called a download because when a person clicks on it, it produces an image for them and is then considered a download? Sorry to ask so many questions about this. The new link looks like this: http://www.shorthandclasses.com/com...owflat&Number=116&page=1#Post116I'm not sure what to do now. Help.

Before you panic too hard. Just try uploading that image again, ive had situations when its not done as expected, and removing the picture and adding it again resolved it.
