I feel a bit daft posting this, but I can't find the 'send password' function in the control panel. I've been going around and around, getting nowhere... Can someone point me at it please?

Due to security, passwords in .T are encoded in a one way hash, which means there isn't a way to recover (or send) the current password; the user would have to request a new one through the "forgot password" screen.

Oh no I was dreading that answer.... My users have never gotten to grips with getting their own passwords (even though it is clearly posted all over the site and a link sent to them in every monthly newsletter!!!) I suppose I'll have to draft a stock email response to all those "I can't find my password" emails I get. Thanks anyway. d.

Maybe I'm missing something, but when I have a member who can't find their password, I go to "Member Management" in the Control Panel and select the member's account for edit. From the Edit Profile screen, there are four options near the bottom: Delete Member, Send Password, Become This Member and Merge User.
When I choose "Send Password", a temporary password is sent to the member which allows them access to their account.
I'm using UBB.threads 7.0.1.

You can send off a temporary password, however once a user logs in using this, I believe, they are presented wiht a notice to change their password. Driv is wanting to send them their current password as is; using the forgot password screen will allow users to set a new password through means of their own.

Thanks for the input mjuby, but Gizmo is correct. My board members are primarily professionals and academics and when it comes to finding their passwords, a lazier bunch I've yet to meet

I just switched over to Threads. I have a few users who requested temp passwords, but they're saying when they go to change the password after logging in, they can't. Is there a setting I need to adjust? Thanks.

"incorrect password for that username"
I'll try doing a test account on my own and see what happens.

False alarm (but you probably already guessed that). User error. Looks like I'm dealing with a few issues and just have to hold the users' hands until everyone gets on: - Poor typing - Slow email (on their end) - The old "check your spam" folder deal I set up a test account, logged in fine, then tried lost password, got it fine. Logged in fine with temp password. Then was able to change to another password and still log-in fine.

you can expect alot of this, which can send you into panic mode, for no reason. But it does settle down.

There should be no limit on temp passwords - as these are simply stored in the database and are simply a second password in effect for the account. (AKAIK)

Our clients are not receiving their "request new password" emails. If we try to send them a new temporary password they are not receiving it either. Any ideas? We have changed from and old version of UBB to Threads. Thanks tradge

Are they getting other emails? Do emails notifying them of new posts in a topic or forum or notification of a PM get through?

No, it would seem that no emails are getting through. We are not receiving PM emails. Thanks Trish

AS no mails are leaving the system it'd seem it's a mailserver/sendmail issue
