You'll be able to upgrade directly from 7.1 to 7.2.

Question :

How will the Gallery and Normal Forums interact in a move this Topic situation?

Criteria to move into gallery ? (If any)
Criteria to move a Topic out of the Gallery ? (If any) smile

I guess must have 1 attached image ?

Topics in a gallery forum can only be moved to gallery forums. Topics in regular forums can only be moved to regular forums.

Nope. An existing forum cannot be changed to a Gallery Forum. And a gallery forum cannot be changed to a regular forum.

They both function off a lot of the same code, but swapping from one to another just leads to a lot of issues, so forum types are locked in and exclusive.

I upgraded fine from 7.1 to 7.2 - the altertable took quite a while on mine (about 40 minutes), but then I do have 1.2 million posts.

I did not have any errors - but then I also used a slightly later version that the one used by Gizmo.

So I am sure you will be fine smile

The default when your style is upgraded just uses the alt-2 class. I manually tweaked my author-content here.

Rick, when you release 7.2, do you include something that tells us which files have been modified? I usually only get the major releases, so I've not done an upgrade before. But this one is too good to pass up. smile

Its faily easy.
You run a upgrade script, i will also check than all the new
files are inplace before it does what it does.

Ive forgot where you can read up about it,

Essentially you just upload everything smile (except styles, includes etc.)

Between .x changes it might be worth re-doing your hacks if you have anything, however for .x.x changes I would probably alter the files first then upload anything.

At the moment there are some big changes in each .x release.

Thanks Mark and Ian. I guess what I'm nervous about, is that I have made a heap of changes to scripts. I did keep a record of those changes, but I'd love to be able to compare my record with the files that have been modified for this upgrade.

I use UltraCompare and it makes the chore very easy. Couple that with UltraEdit and you're good to go.

I can't fathom ultracompare out - with beyond compare I can check two folders and then skim through each file that has changed. That doesn't seem possible with ultracompare.

Bear in mind that you need to ignore the version number in every file.

if you are using the freebie version that comes with ultraedit, then i'll agree.

however folder compare with ultracompare is uber-easy and easier than beyond compare, imo. i especially like the 3-way compare option too.

i must admit that i was using UC first, didn't like all of it's features (was too lazy to really figure out how to do it properly). sooo i went to BC.... and liked it..

then i came back to UC, learned how to setup all the defaults and profiles and have never looked back.

And the text below it which i could never get it to ignore
so my first compare was hours long because of a blank line
and commented out php tags or somthing.

Its done now so i hopefully wont have that palarver again,
not the easiest program to get working out the box.
But when you do have it "Set up" correctly its sweet wink

I have confidence in BC2 now wink

okie dokie.

i guess it comes down to a preference thingie then. they both accomplish the goal of comparing root folders and spitting out recursive differences in files and i just ended up gravitating to UC in the end, as i was already using UE as my editing platform.
