I'm running 7.1.1.

I have two users reporting the same problem.

They can reply to PMs, but they can't initiate them. When trying to initiate a PM they click the submit button and they say nothing happens.

I've checked that they are not ID'd as underage.

Also, their user names contain no special characters (TommyTrebble and Falcon).

Could it be an issue with cookies?

Or, a browser setting? (I've attached browser specs for one user.)

Thanks for any tips.

That is strange?
Can they start a new topic on a forum?

You may have to open a support ticket as its unusual for only 2 members to experience this.

Its easier to second guess if everyone was the same.

I have to admit I've had some freaky things happening with PMs too. None of them make any sense, and they aren't reproducible at will.

1. Sometimes, for absolutely no reason that I can figure out, some people just don't get a PM that's been sent to them. I've only seen this happen about four times - one of those times it was me who sent the PM. When looking at the Participants, only I'm on the list. Weird ...

2. This is not something I would expect any help with, and it's not a big enough deal anyway - but it's a symptom of a mod my husband did. He made it so that when a user activates PM notifications, they get the entire body of the PM sent to them, as well as PMs they have sent. The weird thing is, I sometimes get PM notifications (and the body) of PMs other people have sent to other people - NOT to me. That's freaky.

Mentioning it for what it's worth - neither of them is a big issue for me.

Thanks, I'll open a support ticket.

I "became" these users as admin and could send fine.

One told me he is on a MAC if that has something to do with it. Not sure yet.

Navaho/David Dreezer is on a MAC and I haven't heard of him having any such problems, so i doubt it's that

I want to say it's got to be user error, but I can't know for sure. Very strange that they can create posts and reply to PMs.

I opened a support ticket.

You could do a post on your forums for MAC users?

What i mean by this is a Topic requesting help to
check a possible bug.

And then say

can you sent me a private message?
Are you using a mac?
What version of IE are you using? (What ever a mac uses).

Then hopefully the feed back can bring a speedy solution.

Something like that anyway.

The worst part is members forget to inform you that
the problem does not happen any more and your still
going around and around in circles scratching your head.

Our admin reported a problem with PM's as well... In testing, I have found that I am unable to send/receive between my administrator account and another test account. Also, between admins we cannot send.

Another interesting aside... I cannot delete a message either. When I select the checkbox and click the delete button, the page refreshes and nothing happens. The message remains. I can remove myself, but I cannot delete the message. Not sure if there is a correlation.

I am fairly new to the software, it was inherited. Nothing has changed with the software, as far as I am concerned. There are only two admins and neither of us have done anything. Seems to have started between May 19/25.

We're on version 7.0.2. Not sure what other relevant info is needed. I have submitted a support ticket.

Any help would be much appreciated!

edit... I just checked the database and the posts are in there.

Thanks!
~Paul

This happens to me too. I think what it is ... is that they have deleted their original PM, and once they delete it, you can no longer respond to it. You have to start a new one. I have found this with our site, and I find it highly annoying.

Well, it is the users choice to not be subscribed to a pm...

I think a good "fix" would be to have the ability to "invite" or "add" a user to a conversation.. Then, if a user unsubscribes (deletes) the pm, they can be added back in...

Yes, that would be great, actually!
