The way I understand it, if a person is a moderator, they see all of the forums - even the ones hidden from users.

What if I want to give a person very limited moderator permissions (basically just sticky topics), but I don't want her to see the hidden forums?

Any ideas?

CP -> Moderator Settings -> Moderator Permissions

Options:
Is Moderator (are they a moderator?)
Moderated Forums (how many forums do they moderate?)
Lock Topics (Can they lock topics?)
Move Topics (Can they move posts to other forums?)
Delete Posts (Can they delete posts?)
Stick Topics (Can they sticky topics?)
Approve Posts (Can they approve posts to moderated forums?)
Edit Posts (Can they edit posts of users?)
Edit Users (Can they edit user profiles?)

I know that stuff, but my problem is - as soon as I make this person a moderator, she can see all the forums. I don't want her to see the "Moderator's Forum", because she's going to be very temporary, with limited permissions.

All I really need to know, is how to make it so that she doesn't see the "Moderator's Forum"?

You could give the moderator group no access to the moderator forum, then make a new group and give THAT access to the moderator forum and add all of your moderators to that forum...

Not sure how it'd work out, but it'd be worth a try, and you could test it by using the "become this user" feature

Giz, I tried it. It doesn't work. As soon as you make somebody a moderator, they automatically see all forums.

ignore this post, because i rambled on and on. giz proposed solution has it right as far as i can tell..

SD, you could do that and set all moderators into a special group... which was what i was pointing towards above...

matter of fact giz you were onto the right path.. sorry for glossing over your idea. i'm not sure, but that should work!!

my overkill example was for 3, which i prolly didn't need to give.

it's all doable and if there was a specific enough example, i could provide what i would do to make it so.

i've done the same thing, with a slight twist on r/w axx.. hrm..

one thing that strikes me though about your saying when you mod someone, they see 'all forums' .. you must be doing something quite not right, because there are many cases on forums where there is an admin only forum that mods can't see and don't..

Ok, I don't get what you guys are saying. I did what Gizmo suggested. I made a new group, and called it "Restricted Mods", and added the new moderater to it. But as soon as I made that new moderator a moderator, I "became" that moderator, and could see the "admin forum".

If I'm doing something wrong, I wish I knew what it was.

no it's the other way around..

create new group 'mods that can see mod forum' (i used long form, you use whatever)

assign all mods to that group EXCEPT the restricted one.

then make your mod forum NOT have axx to the 'Moderator' group. and only the 'mods that can see mod forum' group.

and poof... workie
