With more and more of use being able to log in from remote locations, i really do think that the "Notify" A post warning should also be a pm too.
Will leave the idea of being able to reply to that pm for another day, but if i'm away and i dont have access to my e-mail account (pop) i have no way of knowing that some one has reported a post and action may need to be taken.
The warning about it could be a bold message visible to admin and moderators only of that forum.
The main point being if I'm not getting e-mails because of my location then shouldn't threads warn me visually about it? It can make the difference of world war 3 starting off.
Trust me if your away from home, and you log in you need know what's going on.
Keeping it all under one roof

As it always goes by as un thanked help in my opinion, and if you have someone that's prepared to give you the heads up, at the least you should be able to say thank you for the information.
Or
We will look into this thanks.
Its just wrong that its one way. I end up sending a pm if its been really helpfull.

No PM, no e-mail. Just show "unhandled notifies" in some way above the forum.
At our board I made a hack to do this. Notifies are put in a table, with a "handled or not" flag, and if you are a moderator/admin you get to see in the header the number of unhandled number of notifies.
All 14 of us are global admins/mods, so this saves a lot of e-mail load. We really had a problem when coming home after a day that your e-mail box would be full of notifies and every mod/admin had to wade through all of them to see if they were handled or not.
With this system, our response times to notifies have become significantly faster, none are forgotten anymore in the bulk, and mods/admins are not bothered anymore with notifies that are handled already. As an added bonus, we also have statistics of who use the notify option the most and maybe use that information to see if somebody would fit in your moderatorteam.
b.t.w., on the example image, it's called a "Fluitje", that's whistle in english, and that's how we call them at our board.
My header also notifies in case of new user registrations, new unapproved posts, new displayname change requests. And new user registrations/display name changes are only shown to the admins that keep themselve busy with that.
To Me that sounds perfect and the right solution, e-mail is only as a back up reference i'd say.
Was it a difficult hack? is it on DEV or somthing you made your self?
Is it a system you prefer to the current system.
Its come to my attention as i have 2 coursed to go on and each is for a week at a time. I wont have the ability to log into my e-mails while away but i think i can get internet access, and what you have show is the ideal solution IMO
Thanks for sharing that

Made my self.
It has a little bug that has stopped me from publishing it to dev yet, and it needs a lot of cleanup. It's kind of version 0.02 alpha that worked surprisingly well for us.
But I'll be happy to send you a PM with the code I use if you are comfortable implementing that to get things on the way before your trip away.
The reason I say a busy board is we have 3 Admins and about 1/2 dozen Mods but I get only a few e-mails a year about issues.
Maybe because it's Tech oriented so most (not all) users are a bit savy about this sort of stuff.
Even when the board was doing a few hundred posts a day we only had to moderate a couple posts a week. Now that it has slowed to a crawl their isn't much for anyone to do in the way of Moderating.
Hmm, that's an idea...I should make it so I show up in the list of Search Spiders as well. Rickindexer, Rickabot, Rickoogle, Rickahoo....hmm, none of those have a ring to it.
I'm just wanted to chime in quickly to say that our mods have also been asking that their "Notifications" come via PM rather than email as well.
We have over 60 mods, and 1 Admin (me) and they would prefer to see the notification on the board itself as that's usually their first stop and not always their email.
If your working away without e-mail access? Pm If your wanting to keep a record of Notify then email is good
You can keep a record in PM's too.
My own system that I mentioned in this topic also archives the old notifies. I even get historic data out of it (ie, who uses it a lot and might be a potentional moderator).
Well, I'll get it to work with v7.3, don't worry The updated mod will hit the street the day threads v7.3 will come out, because it's a mod we at themepark.nl can't do without anymore.
I actually started packing things up tonight, but found out I have a few minor issues to sort out.
We use the header insert to show the notifies to the admins/mods, but having to hack it in several headers would not be too friendly. So I'm looking on getting it in the header template.
I think it is just a matter of when it happens. It would be nice though. Almost everything else you can get from the software now. Why not the notify option also?
PS, Can't think of any other notification to access on site?
