We're going to upgrade our forums on Friday night, and I'm wondering if there are any gotchas with the upgrade routine. Giz, I read your thread about the proper upgrade routine, but I have a couple of questions. 1. Somebody mentioned something about being careful to not overwrite image files (graelins and posting icons and stock avatars). How do I avoid doing that? 2. Does the upgrade overwrite my style sheet? Last time we upgraded, the style sheet was overwritten, and I got an error every time I tried to import the backup style sheet I had. I'd hate to do all that manually again. 3. We have several mods. Would it be a bad idea to apply the mods before running the upgrade? I'm very nervous about this. But it's a great release, so I'll be brave.

Rosey is back! Yey! :x...
You shouldn't have to worry about overwriting image files, unless you've made customizations... If you make customizations I recommend creating your own directory, and using that with your theme.
So long as you dont overwrite these folders, you should be fine: cache_builders/custom includes styles
Thus, your stylesheets won't be over written; the upgrade system however will update the styles installed.
I would do the upgrade, THEN mod; you don't want things to go wonkers due to a miss-applied mod.

Thanks Giz .. I've been a bit busy, but I really need to check to see if Mark, Ian, SK, NT, and you have been behaving. I seriously doubt it. I've missed you guys. Ok, about the image files .. I know to put them in a different directory than the default, but what about the control panel? For example, the graemlins - I've imported a heap of graemlins via the control panel. Will the control panel go back to the default graemlins? So long as you dont overwrite these folders, you should be fine: cache_builders/custom includes styles Does the upgrade give us the choice of what to overwrite, and what not to? Or do you suggest we do it manually? Also, those three folders you mentioned - have none of the scripts in those folders been updated? Thus, your stylesheets won't be over written; the upgrade system however will update the styles installed. Not sure what you mean by that, Giz. I would do the upgrade, THEN mod; you don't want things to go wonkers due to a miss-applied mod. I KNEW you'd say that.

any imported graems should be fine, as they're "added" and not the "stock" they won't be over-written. It's not the importers job to do that, it's you uploading files to the server. Just don't upload those directories (in fact, when I extract the archive on my hard drive I delete these folders as a first step). I always say that! ... Mark, check it out, she said she missed me :x

I know it, Giz. But family days are good .. and we'll be just fine. If not, you'll hear me screaming all the way up there, and you'll know to log on to UBB. We'll be faithfully following yours and Ricks instructions. And some other guys have posted some good tips too. I've saved them all.

Hi Rose - I'm in exactly the same boat as you. Due to upgrade but can't find the time to do it. Wanted to go with Friday night also but I'm up really early for a Karate comp on Saturday & Sunday. Probably end up doing it midnight Sunday and totally screwing it up Good to see you back

Aww .. so nice to be missed. You guys are all sweet. nt, yep .. will certainly be backing up. driv, look at it this way - maybe I'll find a couple of gotchas or tips that you can use. The main stuff I'm nervous about, is images and styles. And we're not looking forward to reapplying mods, re-editing language files, and re-modifying templates. There's a lot to be said for having an unmodified forum I guess. Good luck, driv! Let me know how you go, ok?

Thanks Mark! But when we upgrade, you'll be off with the sandman. I'm glad yours went without a problem. Actually, I had a read last night, of all the people who did have problems with it, and felt a lot better. Firstly, not that many people had problems, and secondly, most of the problems were because of something weird ... like that Windows server thingy thing.

It's a kickarse movie, and is sooo not geared towards kids; it's geared towards big kids who grew up with it ... On another note, my 2 year old slept right through it... I try to bring the 'ol lady to a movie every couple of months...

Didn't know that - I think I'm a bit old for it. The only part I remember is the theme...
Transformers - ROBOTS IN DISGUISE!!!
Go on - sing it! You know you want to!

I really like the movie (this one, not the old cartoon one) I already had my own kids in grade school when Transformers came out so not a cartoon I grew up with. I watched stuff like Gigantor as an older teen http://www.gigantor.org/

Giz, I really need to know what you mean by: Thus, your stylesheets won't be over written; the upgrade system however will update the styles installed. Not sure if you can tell, but I'm VERY nervous about my styles. Also, what IS it with guys and that anime stuff?

Well, by not uploading the styles directory you wont overwrite your styles (as they're stored in the styles directory, which isn't overwritten!)
The upgrade script will apply any "new updates" to the stylesheets in the control panel during the upgrade.

Also, what IS it with guys and that anime stuff? ROFLMAO - Not sure Rose. I can appreciate some of them but I'm apparently the odd man out on this by not liking to watch them. Seems a lot of grown men like watching them, but it's beyond me too. Final Fantasy Advent Children had some great film work in it and the skill required to create that is admirable as are some others but overall I guess there is just too many other things in life that I find more interesting and we don't have an unlimited amount of time. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_Fantasy_VII_Advent_Children

Well wasn't FFAC originally only in Japanese? I have the reworked version where someone took the time to put it into English. Not sure where I got it though. About 700MB in size.
