I would like users to be able to ad / remove themselves from certain groups
Some people like off topic and others do not...

Is that an option with UBB.threads 7.2?

There is a feature that I'd love to see... PHPBB has an option that users can "request" to join any "public" groups you have; and they can remove themselves from any "non standard" groups (minus ofcoarse the users group, in which every user exists in).

I would love to see this added to UBB.Threads; though it will likely not happen until Rick's revamp of the group system in a future revision.

technically the user group is also selectable. i have a forum where the group 'users' are not allowed in. so you can remove a person from the 'users' group too

well, i know you CAN, but do you really want users to be able to remove themselves from that group?

depending on how you setup what a 'public' group is, sure. i'd assume that the admin would decide.

right now i have a forum where none of the users are a part of the hardwired 'user' group at all.

they key from my vantage point is to not allow a user to remove themselves from 'non-public' group. the admin can decide if the 'user' group is either public or non-public.

the admin would probably also decide that the moderator and admin groups were off limits too!

bottom line though: use the 'user' group as you see fit

I agree here; but we'd have to have several group types...

1. Non-Public - Users cannot add or remove themselves.
2. Public - Users can request to join and can leave at any time.
3. Private - Users cannot request to join, but can leave the group (for paid user groups for example).

i'd change 'non-public' to 'static', because in reality those groups can be setup to see public or private forums..

I was struggling for words; but yeh I can go with 'Static', 'Public', 'Private' with the above types ...
