When I upgraded to UBBthreads I never performed subsequent backups. (I didn't know how using the myPHP interface) and now I may be burnt toast. Network Solutions suffered some kind of catastrophe last night and now I just see this:
UBB Error We encountered a problem. The reason reported was
Database error only visible to forum administrators
Please use your back button to return to the previous page.
The databases generate errors like they are not there when I access the myPHP interface.
Can anyone speculate what might have happened here? Another application I have that reads from a database is also not working and when I go into the myPHP interface I get error messages that the tables are not found. I didn't install UBB so I am not a expert.

I am updating my calls to Network Solutions here: http://www.popularwireless.comI alerted my users to the down time in my blog and shortly afterward the blog DB was corrupt when it had survived the first catastrophe. I don't know whether the ISP erased the message or just thought I was complaining about the blog. I'd be willing to pay the fees from the UBB folks to help diagnose this. The site is part of my livelihood and an essential part of a new non-profit group.

If you don't have SQL error logging turned on, then what you can do is edit the libs/mysql.inc.php script. Around line 281 of that file you'll see this:
$showerror = 0;
Change that, to:
$showerror = 1;
This should then display the actual database error and we can give more advice on what to do next.

Interesting. I can't find the php scripts or a LIBS directory. In the old UBB directory Rick?
nevermind. I found them.

I can also attempt access via the Network Solutions myPHP panel and copy that error. I have another PHP application that usese a smaller database with two tables and the smaller database reports the tables are not there.

error code 145 is for a crashed table. So basically you'll need to repair that table. If you have something like phpmyadmin installed you can run the following SQL command on your database.
repair table ubbt_USERS

Is repair table ubbt_USERS considered a Query? I cretaed tables for another datbase I made by using the import option which ran the command lines in an SQL sript. Do I import this line in a text file or run this as a query. I don't see a "command" window. I do see a QUERY window.

Yes, the repair statement would go in the query window.

I need to hurry up and setup the feedback/testimonial forum No kidding. UBB ROCKS. Rick, my Alexa status went from 900,000 something to just above 500,000. My advertising income is pleasant enough, my USERS think UBB is the BOMB...I just can't say enough good things. I'd like you to upgrade my site now if you think the latest version warrants it. I have the scratch at the moment sir.

I don't have SSH access to this company's machines. I assume then I need to use a backup option somewhere in the product or use myPHP admin to export tables? I'll start another thread....

phpmyadmin has an 'export' option. you can then select to gzip the result. if all goes well, you'll have something like 'yoursite.sql.gz' ready to d/l to your computer

I think that with a db over about 50-100mb phpmyadmin will not provide a "complete dump" as it'll hit the php maximum execution time and kill the file... you really need ssh access to use the items in the backup faq entry, but it's the best way to do a backup. I believe you my be able to find some php scripts which create a dump in your webspace which isn't too out of the ordinary, assuming you can use system() or exec()... Heck, they may even use something differant

What about the backup routine from cron - can't it backup your DB as part of the site properly on *nix ?

Well, you could do what I did on one of my sites... I set cron to execute a backup.c file, chmodded 777, then set in there the commands i wanted to have run, which creates a folder, backs up the sql database, tars the directory, then ftps it elsewhere and then removes the archive... kind of advanced for a beginner though lol
