Ok, I've finally packaged up the black and gold style and making it available for download. This comes with a custom wrapper with images, so you'll want to read the readme.txt file within for instructions.
One thing to note, is that this style is best viewed with high resolution monitors, since it can make the portal boxes fairly wide in some browsers.
You can demo this style here, by choosing the Black and Gold style in your preferences, or you can view it as the default style at

not really. i did just what Rick said and i have all my corners.
if you are referring to the styles editor. that 'feature' has been there all along.. what i've done is open /admin/stylepreview.php
and comment out two lines that (dunno why they are there) kill the styles dir prefix
like so and *poof* you see your wrappers in the preview area..
also, i made a quicky set of images that fit nice with this theme.. well i didn't make all of them, but the category, forum, sticky etc..
just upload them to /images/general/gold and go to the styles editor and change the general to point to gold..

The reason Rick disabled the theme here was due to bugs in it... Since he's released it as well, i figure he had to have fixed the bugs
...
And it proves that I am a spambot :nod:

hehe Mark, i hear you. the reason it popped into my head was that styles with wrappers (with images) always looked funky in the editor, but ok out in the real ubbthreads world..
sooo i dug into it to make the previews look peachy

Tip: if you use in the class .form-input the following setting: width: 97%; then you can use the layout on on nearly every resolution. The problem - dont ask why - is the inputfield in the shout box. I use the width setting on all of my styles.

Nope, not just you. That's why it's labeled here as (high resolution), since it's ok in IE if you have a big resolution, but the side islands are too big if you don't.

Only on your own board. You could modify the CSS to change it's look and feel. Rick says he's going to make changes to 7.3 that will allow FF, IE, Opera, etc to be detected differently and appropriate code used so that basically it should look the same i most browsers. Now if that's really going to make it for 7.3 I don't know as I've not seen a lot of talk about it recently.

getting something to look the 'same' for all browsers is damn near impossible.
there is ie detection code in 7.3, but that doesn't address all the quirks involved and the different handling of the box model etc etc.
screwing with css and markup is akin to an advanced art form, where cross browsing is involved. especially if you want to accommodate OLD browsers..

I don't disagree with that. I would try to support the main browsers though as much as possible. There are plenty of sites out there that have lists of "known" issues and workarounds for the browsers.

Anyone know of any style that looks similar to this that doesn't require the high res?

try the following settings in the style under 'extra settings' and the high-res is gone
.body_col textarea.form-input {
width: 99%;
}

By the way I use this style on my site now as the default look. My site has taken a turn in the gaming world towards the Pirate genre and well it fits pretty well. Take a look if anyone wants to see it in action
