Hi all,

I have a client that is having problems. They are as follows.

"I upgraded the server to CENTOS 5.0 and all applicable packages, SQL, APACHE, PHP, etc. Unfortunately the upgrade borked a lot of permissions and ownerships of the scripts. We're currently running UBB Threads version 6 (I believe)."

Any ideas? I get blank pages for admin and forums. Do they need to go to 7.x?

You know, I'm not sure; the OS shouldn't matter; and UBB6 is compatible with PHP5/MySQL5...

It is likely an ownership problem; simply have them chown the web directory containing the ubb files to the proper owners and check permissions on the files and you should be back in business.

As an FYI, I'm running a UBB.T6 board on MySQL/PHP5 without problems (in a test environment)

Hmmm well you can't just jump onto MySQL 5 from 4 as it will break passwords if you don't set it to the old. You can go up to 5/5 but you have to step into and watch a couple items first.

If you don't then the board won't open for sure if you just drop the PHP5/MySQL5 on the board and expect it to work.

Actually, the password change came in MySQL 4.1; so you can just jump from 4 to 5 (from MD5 to SHA1); especially since you can just set the config to use old style passwords...

Perhaps not 100% sure is all as it has been a couple years now for me when it happened but something did not like it and I had to drop back and do it in a specific pattern.

Memory is not that great though on the exact details and their issue here could be something completely different.

Post more information if you still need help.

Well, the upgrade to MySQL4.1 assumes you WANT to use "new passwords", so it can cause a big mess lol... I remember when we did it initially (not through the yum repo as we do now), lets just say I learned how to recover the MySQL root password that weekend lol...
