Hello,
How do I disable private messages between members?
I found the "Max # of private messages per user" option. Will setting this to 0 disable private messages?
Thanks, MichaelM
P.S. I'm using UBB.threads 7.2.2

When I needed to stop spammers on an individual basis, I had to set them as underage in their profile in the control panel. That disabled their ability to use the private message feature.

In 7.2 you can select an option in each users profile entitled "Member cannot Send/Receive PMs:".

In 7.2 you can select an option in each users profile entitled "Member cannot Send/Receive PMs:". But if you want it off as a total for all users, that's not really an option.

Such an option doesn't exist to my knowledge... short of removing sendprivate.tpl and sendprivate.inc.php

if you simply must have it prior to 7.3 there is a little mod over at ubbdev that does this and a wee bit more.
but i'd recommend waiting for 7.3, where Rick intends to add that and even more good stuff. also, you'd essentially be throwing away the modifications you did too.
that mod is only a stop gap..

hehe this gets asked for every release of x.y really.
best guess is to look at the forumer releases and the time between. you'll find it's around 3 to 4 months ... but that doesn't fix a real date or anything for 7.3.. just gives you an idea

Is there a way to have the system disable private messaging for each user automatically? That is, set the private messaging permission on a user by user basic to be disabled. But have the system automatically select each user record then disable private messaging?

well, you can run a query to set that flag to TRUE for all users, except say Admins and Moderators..
but it's not part of the core product.

Do you know what that query would be?

Do you know what that query would be? update ubbt_USER_PROFILE set USER_CANNOT_PM=1;would set everyone's PM rights to not allowed. If you run this one: ALTER TABLE ubbt_USER_PROFILE CHANGE USER_CANNOT_PM USER_CANNOT_PM TINYINT( 1 ) NULL DEFAULT '1'it would set PM rights default to not allowed for new users.

Any idea on the time frame when 7.3 will be released? Well, there are several ways to calculate a "guess"... 1. Look at when 7.2 was released, add ~3 months. 2. Look at when 7.3 bugfixes started being updated (several days ago) and add 2 months (keep in mind it has to go through rigerous testing). 3. Wait till it's installed here, add a month. These dates will all be differant, and likely all wrong; but then again, there is no difinitive date...
