Hi,

This is more a question to the ubb developers: when you are changing the language files and adding new wordlets, could you please be so kind to add a commentline after every release version stating the version number? In that way it is very easy to add only the new wordlets to older versions of the language files that can be downloaded here.

I was trying to update the 7.00 dutch version to 7.2, but because I had no clue what was changed or added in these new files I actually started the whole translation job over. This takes a lot of time, and I don't want to do this again, when a new version comes out. Just this commentline with the last version number, tells me what to add to the older files to make them up-to-date again.

In the install directory, you'll find the files NEW_LANGUAGE_CHANGES.txt and LANGUAGE_CHANGES.txt

These include the version of each change, as well if the phrase was added, removed, or just udpated

BeyondCompare is good for a freebie but I think this one is a bit more powerful / friendly if needed.

hmmmm... could swear the older version of it was free. Been a while since I've used it though.

Since both of you guys have used it for a long time maybe try the ExamDiff Pro and after using for a little while (not just click open - yuck I don't like this, actually test it and give your thoughts) I think I'll download BC and try it since I've not tried it in a LONG time now.

If it integrates into the windows shell, I'll have no problem testing it; if it requires me to laod it and select files manually, i highly doubt i'll use it wink

LOL - Not a big deal, was just curious. I'm of a different school. To some degree I despise applications that do integrate with explorer (depends on how useful and how well done the integration is)

Sort of like WinZip. It has excellent integration (but overkill if it's current v11 defaults are left on, at least now it lets you disable many of the integration features if wanted, which I do disable some)

Well, I do a lot of development work, so I have like 30 ubb directories (differant clients require differant mods, plus my licensed sites) so right clicking and just choosing "set to left" and "compare to :other directory:" are perfect for my needs...

How do you like it? It's not too bad a price if I buy it with ultra-edit.

it does all of what i need. folder compare, in particular works like a snap and the fact that it's integrated with UE (my editor of choice) makes it a no brainer for me.

bottom line: it's also a personal preference. BC is fine, but i opted for UC as my tool of choice, after trial running both.

Well I own a copy of both UltraCompare and ExamDiff Pro and for my money ExamDiff Pro is still miles ahead of UC, though I can see that in the long run I think UC will probably come out on top with features etc over ExamDiff Pro, just don't think they're there yet.
But that is one reason I bought the lifetime for UC as I could see it's potential just like UltraEdit.

I use the opensource and free version of winmerge. This is (imho) the ideal tool to compare folders, files etc.

But to put it back on topic. I found the NEW_LANGUAGE_CHANGES.txt and LANGUAGE_CHANGES.txt-files, but I find this a very unfriendly file to read for humans. A visual aid in the actual language file would make much more sense, because then I know where to copy and paste it from the original file. I speak for myself, but I can guess there are more people around here, that don't have a comiler-like application to generate an updated language file. Or is there an application available that takes the language files, takes the txt-file and updates them according to the changes?

when upgrading, ubb tells exactly what's new in the language department. So I use that information.

I still prefer BC, even half asleep on a night of binge drinking it's as easy to use as right clicking on a file...

I wonder if i can persuade them to give me a free license wink

Excellent program. I posted in another post about it. Used to use another program "ExamDiff Pro" but found that the new version of UC actually surpasses it now. BC is okay but just don't think it compares to UC (IMHO)

Paint Shop Pro 5.0 is no comparison for the latest Adobe Photoshoop. But it does everything I want, so it's good enough for me.

UC might be the better choice overall, but does it have advantages over BC for the ubb stuff (language files, upgrading with hacks).

Me too, no regrets so far, it's been an enormous help so far.

I do that more, just buy something to force myselve to start working with a program smile

I used to use a horrible ftp program (some way old cuteftp), tried several, but never really tried them. It was just trying it with one site, and basicly used the old one for everything. I just bought a random ftp program that had good reviews to force myselve to get all my ftp sites in. Still use flashfxp till today smile
