For some reason, though it specifically says otherwise in the CP, topics from private "read only" forums wont display in post islands i make on my boards. Anyone have any pointers?

If that stumps you, is there any way to display the posts, similar to how the portal page does it, into a specified table/cell on a web page?

before you answer, consider this: Will the fact that the forum is "read only" hinder things the way it is with the "post island"?

read only is not a hinderance at all. matter of fact post islands are more forgiving as they will display private forum data, if you let them.

why don't you better explain what you are doing and the version you are using, and i'll try to help (or someone on the board will)

Latest version. And all i'm doing is:

cp>post island

then setting the "source forum" to my news forum. I've tried the same thing with other forums and get identical results every time.

If the forum is private in any way, it wont display the posts in the box. If it is public to users, it will display them.

ok, i just went and did the same thing with an 'admin only' forum.

logged out, which means i'm a guest or non-logged in user.

that post island is displayed with topics/posts fine.

soooo, did you clear your cache so it's rebuilt?

well, since that file is cached, you might look @ your permissions for the cache directory.

go to cpanel and do a permission check (lower left)

make sure you have all GREEN 'OK's

if not, then CHMOD where needed.

All green OKs on my side. I bet it's something really simple that I'm missing, that's how it usually goes tongue

can you just try your standard 'Recent Topics' for that forum ?

See if the recent topics display properly ?

maybe it's your cache builder for that specific Island ?

ie: try using a different island number ?

whoops, i guess i was wrong in assuming there was a standard one.

ie like online posts.. my bad.

i was just trying to see if you could find something that was working and then change it to use your suspect forum to feed it.

Are there any actual "new" topics/posts in that forum? By default it only lists topics that aren't older than 30 days old. So if you don't have anything posted in there within the last 30 days, they won't show.

I'm not exactly sure why I have that time check in there. Perhaps since if any posts are older than a month, then it's not very "recent" wink

The posts in there are older than 30 days, but even when I make a new "test" post in there, it wont display.

we have a winner! <smacks forehead> Thanks a lot guys wink

Suggestion, though: Remove the time check (not the cache time), or at least make it editable so that a post will display no matter how old it is.
