UBB.threads PHP Forum Software Community Forums General Off Topic Using IE 6 - cannot see icons for URL links

This has got me wacky.
Using IE 6 with SP1, Win2000 Pro SP4

This problem started last week and have not been able to find the cause.
I think a damn billygates program for baseline security set something as problem seems to have started after using that program or I used a tuner program that changed or wacked something

On certain forums when I go to them, images used for URL links will not download thus buttons are not seen.
Other images show just fine so it seems only those that are used for links

Bottom of IE6 it saying like downloading 20 images but they do not show up and it never stops saying images are downloading. The little MS ball at top right stays spinning and never stops noe does some error show up

I have even set security to low on IE and functions in advance are set to allow images

Any link icon missing has a X ( not red) if I right click on one and pick show image nothing changes.

Spend days on MS so called support and find no content for this issue. Active X is functional.

It only happens on certain forums or websites, others having URL image buttons are fine

What has got changed or corrupted and how to debug this to fix ?

Not sure if from the same cause or not but anytime I use the windows explorer to go to drive directories when I get out of it a error pops up.

Somthing similar with Xp can happen but it would happen
when you "Tried" to download an image.

The way i knew this had happened was if i ever tried
image save as and the only option would be a BMP

The solution to that problem was a corrupt active x
so to correct it i would delete the active x installs
and hey presto it would be have as normal again.

Of course i would have to re-install the active x controllers
when i was prompted like flash etc but it wasnt a big deal.

Failing that, could it be a firewall issue ?

Here is a snapshot, notice the RED boxs where images should be
I notice if I doublclick at the bottom this error pops up and If I click details or cancel nothing happens and I hat to hit the Z at top right to get out of that error window

Any idea with Win2000 how to delete and what to use to install Active X ?

Are you using free Firewall software ?
As a member of ours was wimping on for weeks about image
problems and referenced other sites that were ok.

Anyway the upshot was he uninstalled his AGV Anti Vius
Free software and it all started to work again.

It could have been a update that corrupted a file
so it may not have been something you have done
as the update could have been automatic.

So are you using Free Anti Virus Software ?

IE6 = Tools / Manage Addons

I think i cant remember as i now use IE7 and FF 2

My IE 6 in tools has no Manage Addons
No firewall, no virus software running.

I want to help but cant remmeber

So one last search and i found it lol

Its the View Objects that may help half way down,
but also maybe do it all then you can rule out corrupt internet files.

I have deleted all files multi times and that does not help
The part as to downloaded folder for objects only has one MS file in it and it shows installed and not damaged as seen below

BTW that URL was for another version then what I have V6 as the tabs are in different menus but process is the same

Its not that the IE will not download all images, just ones that mostly are icon/buttons to click on and only happens on a few forums I normally visit but without the button/images I cannot even click on to reply to a post since the buttons for the links do not show up

Ok the fire wall issue a member had as i mentiond above.
Even if he turned his off the problem would still exist.
Why he realised the problem, was when he "Uninstalled" the
free anti virus software on his machine and in his case
it was AVG the free version and we put it down to a corrupt
auto upgrade.

I'm now running out of idea's
