Not sure if this is the place to post this but ....

.... does anyone know or have a url to where I can find out what legal obligations you have for personal details held in users profiles etc in relation to the Data Protection Act and UBB forums. Also, if we are responsible for anything else?

I'm sorry I don't have a URL, but it seems to me that as long as you don't share personal data and keep it in a secure format, you'll be ok.

On a number of occasions I have been asked to provide data or reveal the true identity of a poster when there have been disputes.

I have always replied that I cannot do this as it would infringe upon my members rights to privacy.

Only on one occasion have I revealed an email address and IP number and that was as a result of a court order.

Just google data protection act
I also have a Privacy Statement.
And My Terms and conditions have getting me out of more than one situation due to my members.

It will also depend upon which country your in

don't give any of there details unless its the police lol.
And even then ask them to say why.

A forum not a million miles from where i am had 3 admins.

1. Admin had gaven details of a members private messages to a
friend who had been dumped by his girlfriend.

The admin disclosed, the conversation details of there
private messages to the dumped boyfriend.

And the dumped boyfriend reviled his source.

Guess what that was the end of that site with over 2,000 members
and it was pretty active. The Privacy and Trust had been lost.

Never a more true word spoken.
