Hi there. I think someone wrote some Japanese text in our chatbox and as a result it seems to be "broken"... ie. nothing appearing and not able to add anything.

Anyone able to tell me how to "fix" this and get it working again? I suppose I need to delete all the stuff in there, but as I can't see any of the messages I can't do that online.

Thank you!

note: i assume your table prefix is 'ubbt_'

replace with what YOURS is smile

further note: my solution is the sledgehammer approach to delete all shouts. you could go into phpmyadmin and browse the shout table and delete the offending shout as well..

your choice wink

Anyone has any idea why SHOUT BOX won’t work through an INTERNET EXPLORER, but it works through other browsers? It worked fine until few days ago. I am running version 7.2. I will be updating it sometimes this week to 7.2.2 but still wondering what could be a cause.

I don't think anyone ever got to the bottom of issues in IE - it doesn't seem to affect all users though.

i have just now had a case of the disappearing shout box for my IE users.

ubb version is 7.2

no clear cause for this disappearance; server system configuration and ubb setup have not been touched for a few days.

tried clearing the cache, but didn't do anything.

has this issue had any developments since it was last discussed here?

speculating, it could be an IE ajax issue.

ah! just tried the suggestion above:

Code
TRUNCATE TABLE ubbt_SHOUT_BOX

and it fixed the problem!

i recall now that certain "funny" characters entered into shoutbox messages break IE.
