I have seen this on one or two other forum software, and I think it would be a nice feature as it would limit the amount of emails being sent out from the server. When the first email gets sent, it states that there may be more replies to this watched item, but you will no longer receive further emails until you read the post/thread on the site. I think this would greatly reduce the amount of emails a board sends out.

something being introduced to reduce mail, but maybe not quite as you say, ive seen that version working, and it makes me go back and visit
