No floods - I live in an area that is subject to flooding from the Thames - but like most things it is whipped up by the media and the authorities, who always seem to predict the worse.
For example whilst I was in Florida, there was plenty of talk of the tropical storm.
However the strength of those winds were less than we often get in Scotland. So it is all relative.

NEVAH! The sheer thought if it scares me...
Does anyone really use threaded mode anymore? lol... I mean, when most of your community uses flat mode it ultimately invalidates the use of threaded mode :x

I've just come from a forum that uses threaded mode. And they are all collapsed. Very irritating having to keep on clicking 'back' to read the next post

Just moved our main 60GB database from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005 onto a 2 Xeon DualCore system w/16GB RAM and SAS RAID1+0 from a Dual P4 SATA RAID5 system w/6GB RAM Have now had 3 people come up and shake my hand and say thanks for the update. Used to take them 15 to 20 min to run some reports that they have to run often. Now runs in seconds. Still have some items to look at for speeding it up more though but was first time in my IT Career that normal user came to my office and thanked me, that felt good.

No I did the main switch over Friday night, but in the middle of the day on Monday one of the configuration files got toasted from someone that logged on with an old client. Kind of dumb but since users share the file and can update it the old client messed up the new clients. Had to kick everyone out and fix it.
Have something in place now that I hope prevents old clients from doing that. So today is first real all day use of the program.
Still some minor issues to fix with the application not the DB but hopefully that will be done tonight and then maybe I can take a break for a few days from this beast.

I always loved threaded mode, and hated flat mode, but I've been converted. I think it's a bit like getting used to diet coke.

Not sure why it took so long; the connection from me to this server can sometimes spike, and I know it's not just me because i've heard others mention it before.

Oh yeah no doubt. I probably just got lucky.
Site is good most of the time, but at times takes a long time to load a page.

IIRC UBBCentral/Dev/Beta are all located on a test server at InfoGroupee so it's not really too suprising

Only took 6 seconds for mine, but useless view. ZigZag back and forth. Likewise - pointless! Even on a fairly large monitor there are huge areas of 'nothingness'. The forum police should regulate this and enforce mandatory compliance with flat mode. grumbles - off to get me jack boots now

A lot of people still find it useful - there are very few topics with 100+ pages anywhere.

You need to visit some of the Asian boards. Those folks can posts long threads.
Been on a few that easily have a few large threads like that.
But true probably not that many in the larger big picture.

Yeh, I visit several as well, threads well beyond 100 pages I also know some other forums that lock topics at 10 pages so users can't "all page" a long thread

I'm still alive, but have a pain in the butt pc problem. Its either dying slowly and wants to make me suffer. Or A Hard drive is going to die, but wont tell me when or why. Or a Driver conflict, or a needle in a hay stack. Currently off loading 450gb on to other drives so i can send 1 drive to the manufacture who seem pretty good about it. 4 days in of testing and tweaking and basically wasting my time, and still no further forward Problem is, if my pc isn't happy then nor am i, i guess we have a relationships and it hard to say goodbye lol I wish it was "Just a Computer" lol
BOOM !! Version v7.6.1.1 People who inspire me Isaac ME Gizmo

Yes what a pain, at least you have the drive still running well enough to copy data elsewhere. I lost a 300GB drive a few weeks ago but only had about 80% of it backed up to another drive. Was working at night, came back the next morning and drive was dead. Not slow down, no clicking sounds, nothing, no errors in event viewer, it just DIED. Tried recovery on another system but it would not come online Lost about 20% of the data due to me being slack on backing up my data. Some times there just is no warning and that sucks even worse So be happy you didn't LOSE the data

I feel your pain Mark I'm trying to help a friend who has years of data on an un-backed-up drive. It has a corrupted boot sector. Sometimes I can get it through the POST and even through the auto-detect - but then it hangs. (On very infrequent ocassions I've gotten it to boot and even seen the files - but not had another drive to back-up to.) I've tried it on primary master - primary slave. secondary master - secondary slave. Trying my best for her - tearful women have that effect....

I'm trying to help a friend who has years of data on an un-backed-up drive. It has a corrupted boot sector. I kept having problems with hard drives on my home PC. Went through 1 every 6 months then realized that they were cooking in removable caddies. Eventually when the whole thing packed in I bought a new PC, an external Freecom Desktop HD and some PC Synch software. I used to back everything up to Iomega 100MB Zip Discs before CD-R was available. Just think, 12 years on from Win 95, that's 12 years of music, images, files, etc. that could all be lost in an instant. There are going to be thousands and thousands of people out there who won't even think about backing up their files and are going to find out the fragility of the digital age the hard way. When it's gone, it's gone. There's no hard copies, no negatives, no records, tapes, etc. just a corrupt hard drive with all your data locked in.
