I have another installation of a PHP product that handles a KB system running on my site, although it sits outside the UBB directory.
Is there a way I can include those within the site wrapper and have them display still?

Matt - check out the custom pages mod over at ubbdev - this should work fine and allow you to wrap the header, footer & sidebars around it.

no worries just thought - does your script have multiple pages - or are they singular pages? If singular then the above mod will work fine - I have mine pull in php, javascript etc. from both internal and external sources. If it is a complete package with multiple pages, then the best you can do is to add in a custom header/footer if the script has a place for these - I do this now with a prediction league. The only way to add in the wrapper would be to somewhat alter the other script. Sorry if I mislead.

Or use the <iframe> tag. I use it for a custom contact page. If you want to try it out just click the submit button on this page, WITHOUT filling in any fields so I don't get bombarded with e-mails.

I don't really find frames/iframes a valid alternative, ever...

that is your opinion - I actually use them for some posts, as it allows me to put a script into a post to pull information from an external site into a post and refresh it every few seconds.

Well, that's all dandy if you don't like SE's hitting data... sure you can set a seperate "non frames" path for them, but most users neglect to... There are tons of other reasons not to use them as well: 1. SE's cannot read data in frames. 2. Users wanting to link back to data in a specific frame that they've navigated away from the index, will be linking back to the index vs the page they want to bookmark. 3. Scrollbars will look like crap inside of your posts...
All in all, not a valid trade in my book... more hassle than it's worth...

All depends what you want the end result to be - in the right circumstances they work just fine

A good designer knows when to use what tool, and he knows that because he knows the inside and outside of his toolbox. What's useless in situation A can be your livesaver in sitution B.
