As in, completely, for everyone, temporarily, without turning off the Forums?
Thanks for any help

Yes, but you would have to edit one of the template files probably. There are just so many files and I've not spent as much time as Gizmo modifying them so not sure where it's stored.
Hopefully him or someone else can let you know which specific file to edit. You should comment out the file and not just delete the entry though so that you can easily restore it later.

in 7.2x, I think you could set everyone to 'underage' temporarily - this I believe would stop PM's. Might have other consequences as well, but as I do not use any age restriction, sadly I do not know.
In 7.3 you can easily set a group to not be able to PM.
Otherwise it would be a case of editing templates to remove the links etc.

Yes that works even for an Admin. If an Admin account is set to under age then they too can not get a PM.

I'd recommend that you simply wait for 7.3 (a public beta should be out shortly) or edit the templates.
header.tpl you'd remove the pm's envelope and menu option. showflat.tpl (or post_side.tpl/post_top.tpl) you'd remove the items for "send pt" profile.tpl you'd remove the option to send a pt
I may be slightly off on the names, but they should be similar (not sitting at a listing of template names atm)
