Whenever you first enter our site (www.thepresidian.net) the following error appears at the top of the page:

</font><blockquote><font size="1" face="">quote:</font><hr /><font size="" face=""> Warning: Cannot add header information - headers already sent by (output started at /home/sites/site27/web/ubbthreads/templates/default/ubbt_header.tmpl:18) in /home/sites/site27/web/ubbthreads/ubbt.inc.php on line 1723 </font><hr /></blockquote><font size="" face="">Help anyone?!?!

Check the bottom of the ubbt.inc.php file - use a text editor like UltraEdit32 or anything that will let you see line numbers.

If there are lines or carriage returns AFTER the closing ?> tag remove them and reupload the file - do the same for the template file listed in the error message.

Interesting Brett, gotta remember that one. I see blank lines quite often at the bottom of the scripts and usually remove them, but I thought it was just being neat <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

Blank lines are not always a problem.

I think that the issue here is that if there are characters outside the <?php ?> in a file that's included, then those characters will be output when the file is included. PHP automatically sends the HTTP headers, if necessary, when outputting data. If the script explicitly sends HTTP headers after the file is included, then the result is the "headers already sent" warning.

You are correct Dave - but we are doing one step at a time. I believe that this is prudent at this time so that we troubleshoot our own scripts before we ask the host if they are sending headers.

Hi Brett - thanks once again for your help. I did as instructed (I removed the carriage returns that were at the end of ubbt.inc.php, ubbt_header.tmpl, and ubbthreads.tmpl) but it did not make any difference.

The actual code on line 1723 of ubbt.inc.php is:

</font><blockquote><font size="1" face="">quote:</font><hr /><font size="" face="">
1722 else {
1723 setcookie("w3t_mysess","$newsessionid","0","{$config['cookiepath']}");
1724 }
</font><hr /></blockquote><font size="" face="">Some more detailed notes on this problem:

> it only occurs when you click the picture on the index page to enter the boards, after that when you return to the forum index it is no longer there.
> you have to be logged in, anonymous users never see this error.

Any clearer?!?!

Brett, I was just responding to Allen's comment about blank lines. I didn't mean to confuse the issue. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

Dave - no problem - sorry <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

Gent - check your cookie path in the control panel and see if it's set for the whole site or just the board.

Try knocking it down to the whole board - if that yields fruit we need to look at how the cookie is being set or if this board is in a frame?

You can open up a Support Ticket here: http://www.infopop.com/support/ubbthreads/ just choose "Problems" and I can have a look at it - give us your login for the board and the FTP, etc. so that I can have a complete look if I need to.

If I can login with your credentials I will let you know.

Did anyone ever find a solution to this problem? I'm in the exact same situation.

Not that I am aware of - I don't recall if I ever got a ticket on this subject or not.

Key is to check the browser problems article first - that's always the first thing to check.
