I'm getting sick of A Small Orange. Despite their GREAT 24/7 customer support, my sites just go down way too often. :/ I need to search for a very reliable host for a client, and if it works out I'll be switching too! Any recommendations (USA)? Or any good host review sites that you know of? I currently have ASO's "Medium" plan for my UBB ($10/1GB disc/25GB bandwidth) which is just enough for now. All my other sites (almost 20 right now) are on the "Super" plan ($30/4.5GB/100GB). Plus I think $5/month for the reseller access. I prefer Linux, cPanel w/ Fantastico, and unlimited MySQL databases -- and I need to be able to set up as many sites as I want (reseller account), and of course good 24/7 support. Any ideas?

I've been with Midphase out of Chicago, Ill. for a while. The "unlimited MySQL databases" might be an issue though with Midphase. Though if someone is offering unlimited then you easily stand a chance that the site could be overloaded and your MySQL apps are going to be slow anyways because the MySQL engine is being hammered. Midphase.comCan find quite a bit of sites that do offer unlimited MySQL but can't vouge for any of them.

Yeah, good point -- I meant just unlimited for ME! I've been with Midphase out of Chicago, Ill. for a while.
The "unlimited MySQL databases" might be an issue though with Midphase. Their Pro-PHASE plan says 3 databases??!!!?!?!! Riiiiiight! Another one I'm curious about is InMotion

Yeah, the 3 MySQL I don't understand either. However they gave me unlimited because I was the Admin over at KiXtart.org and they use KiXtart on their Windows network.
Hmmm.. a bit expensive for what you get there on WebIntellects
Odd not sure what the marketing idea is behind this as I see a few host providers doing this: (unmetered space and bandwidth) for the cheap one, then the next one, much more expensive is limited to 2GB of space and 75GB of transfer.
What is up with that?

I enjoy Webmin with Virtualmin installed; it's free, so you generally get a break there

Dewahost tick most of your boxes (" Linux, cPanel w/ Fantastico,.... and I need to be able to set up as many sites as I want"). The MySQL isn't unlimited but these guys are extremely flexible and will probably accommodate whatever your requirements are. I've been using them for years now and have had no problems. Their tech support is also first class. I'm very happy with them. http://www.dewahost.com/webhosting.html

Thanks, but unfortunately Dewahost doesn't offer enough bandwidth for the price -- they'd cost 3x as much compared to ASO for what I need (100GB+) Hate cpanel with a passion Ah, it's what I'm used to, and host-to-host transfers are supposed to be really easy using it...

Not hard to transfer a site at all; in fact I've had problems using the backup stuff from cpanel/ensim before...
Really, just tar your web files, dump your database and tar it, then download and reverse at the new place...

You could always just buy your own server(s), put in a commercial connection, and do what ever you want too. Then you don't have to worry about limits, space, overloaded SQL Server, or trying to find the teck support dude at 3AM.

'eh with any luck they allow remote reboots vs having to call a tech while you're at it ... Took me a bit of time but I'm now on my host's remote reboot list so i can call in and get my own server rebooted hehe...

Well, sure, you COULD reboot it via a remote on the machine; however, if the machine is bottlenecked, you can't do crap and require a tech to flip the switch (or use a remote reboot utility).
