I want users in certain groups to display a flag or star next to their username. How can this be done?

But if he was going the route on that, may as well make a new field for those communities that want to use the custom field for something else ... Then it'd also need to be added in the check for if custom is full yadda yadda

to make it easier for you, you might just have an sql command saved in your admin cpanel Database section. then you could 1 click, make the change(s) each time

That is not too easy or time saving either...
I guess this would be best moved to suggestions for things to ad to future versions...
This is one of those things is obvious is a "must have"...

Any plans for this to be a stock feature -- where you could assign a graphic in the custom tile field for all users in a specific group?
With subscriptions coming in 7.3, this could be very useful.

While it's not something we'll have for 7.3, I have thought on this quite a bit. There are hurdles to overcome, such as if a user belongs to multiple groups that have custom titles.
So, what I think we'll end up with is where the end user can end up choosing what custom title they want to display. If it's just little graphics for each designated title, like we use for admin/mod flags right now, maybe they'll get an option to choose those as well.
So, it's definitely something we'll be getting into our next release.

I figure you'd have designed in some sort of "Group Weighting" option, to make say Group B higher than Group A; and respect its settings when a user belongs to several groups...

7.3 is coming with the Paypal addon to sell subscriptions... I assume the members that purchased a subscription will be ID'ed in some form...

Yes, they are in the group specified for that subscription.
