I have installed the PHP evaluation version here: http://www.grassy.com/boards/wwwthreads.php?Cat= I did not get any errors during the install and everything progressed nicely until I tried to post a test message. It says that it was posted but it never appears in the index. Any ideas where I went wrong or where to check? Thanks for any help you can provide.
I had the path rather than the URL in that variable. Thanks for the head's up. I've been working on this thing all day and am brain fried:-) Still no luck on posting, when I try to view the post after posting and before it automatically redirects me I get the message: "We encountered a problem. The reason reported was: There was a problem looking up the post in our database." Ring a bell?
Do you have full moderation turned on for your boards? You might want to try looking at the database itself and see if anything is actually getting added to this table. If you have phpMyAdmin installed then you'd want to look at the w3t_Posts table. If not then you'll need to do it via command line like: mysqldump databasename w3t_Posts > filename And then take a look at filename and see if any of the posts are actually in the db. I registered a username on your site so it looks like everything else is working ok.
I have moderation turned off so posts should show up right away. Unfortunately I am new to MySql so I am not sure how to check if the database is being populated:-)
I noticed that when I select "Forum information" it says: You have read only privileges for this forum. Could this be why I cannot post? If so where do I change this? What variables should be selected in the "Change Board's write groups" section? Every time I change something there it says that it did it butif I go back in it displays what was there before my changes? Also when I login it does tell me that I have 8 total posts but we can't see them:-)
There is a slight bug in the forum information screen that says Read Only even if you do have write privs. Do you have telnet access to your domain? If so, then you can use mysql fairly easily by just using the mysql command prompt. If you use the mysqldump command I wrote in the earlier reply then this will dump your posts table to a file so you can see if the posts are actually being entered into the db.
Yes, I do and did try it and got the following error: ERROR 1064: You have an error in your SQL syntax near 'mysqldump THEDATABASENAME w3t_Posts > filename' at line 1 Is this incorrect?
And since you do have PHP installed, you might want to install phpMyAdmin. This is an invaluable tool for working with databases. Works great for situations such as this.
Here is the error message I get when typing your commands: mysqldump: Got error: 1044: Access denied for user: '@localhost' to database 'THEDATABASENAME' when selecting the database Does this mean anything to you?
I know with phpMyAdmin you can dump out data from a specific table to a file. In order to figure out what is going on, I need you to dump the data from the w3t_Posts table and email it to me. There has to be a field in there that isn't getting updated properly.
