okay - testing 7.3. in 7.2 i can stop mods from deleting whole threads and just allow them to move the threads to a hidden forum. i can see no way of stopping this in 7.3 can someone let me know, how it is done, as previously they could delete a post, but not a whole thread.

That's a good point. It looks like currently we don't have that. It's just at the post level, which if enabled would allow them to delete any, including the topic.
I won't be able to get this into 7.3, but will make sure it's in for 7.3.1, which shouldn't be too long after 7.3 is out. It's pretty normal for the first dot release to come out pretty quick once everyone upgrades and finds a few things here and there.

Thanks, Christian and Rick, for this information. I have some mods who are generally good but who sometimes act hurriedly and delete whole threads rather then just an offending post or two. In 7.2.2 I do not allow them the ability to delete whole threads and instead have trained them to move offensive threads to a private "holding tank forum" so that I can go and take a look. More often then not most of the thread is fine and, after some pruning, can be restored.
Knowing this I will probably wait for 7.3.1. But I am happy to wait as I know the product is excellent!

Rick - now upgraded to 7.5.3 & I still can't fathom out how to stop moderators from deleting topics.
Can't see anything in site permissions for this.
Can you let me know how this is now achieved.
Thanks.

The only way I can see to stop them from deleting topics is to just deny them the permissions to delete posts. I don't allow any of my mods to delete anything due to an issue I had a few years ago when a mod got ticked off, resigned in the middle of the night and then removed all his posts, which created a huge mess in the forums.

Ok - think I have found it - was expecting it to be in the group permissions section - but found it in the forum permissions.
Would be nice to be in the group section.

We lost two of our most popular forums to the same problem... The mod decided the site wasn't worth his time, and deleted everything in all of his forums (manually)... I was told to "grow up" and "get a life"... The site has never been the same in regards to incoming traffic.

Would be nice to be in the group section. I like it where it is, as a forum based perm... There are some mods I'd love to give delete permissions to in say my news forum, but would like to restrict it as say my general forum...
