I have an option to use Google search on my site. By simply using the "site:" option.

However it's very erratic in what it finds.

I don't think it's the search itself that's broken it's just what google has found in the past is erratic.

Can folks recommend what to do so google can find anything on the site.

I know there is an option "Enable Spider-friendly URLs?" but the warning makes me nervious to turn it on and I'm confused as to what it does.

How does google find anything where is all tucked away in the DB. Is it only seeing what's in the cache in HTML and that's why it's so erractic?

Sure wish the built in search engine worked better all the users hate it.

Well, the google search only works with items that are in the google cache; items get in there by google crawling your site...

One thing you could do is use a SiteMap to tell them where new content can be located to aid in their culling of your data.

I have one for purchase here that has had decent results in the past (currently running on about 20 sites).

When you say "new content" do you mean new to google or new to the forum?

Curious why your tool is called a "sitemap".

The reason I ask is I want to all my old forum data since 2000 to be google searchable.

What's the tradeoff between using your SiteMap tool and "Enable Spider-friendly URLs" option.

"New Content" to your forum, as in stuff google doesn't have in its cache.

My tool is called a "sitemap" as that's what a sitemap does; see www.sitemap.org

Both the items work together; the se friendly urls allow search engines to crawl the site; the sitemap tells se's where the content is. Both work together.
