I am currently preparing for the 7.3 update (from 7.2.2).
Looking at the server, there seems to be tons of .cgi files (for example in /ubb/Forum1/ etc).
Am I right in thinking that these are now not used and can actually be deleted? Or should I keep them up there.
Is there ANY cgi used in the threads now? Can someone tell me which files from .classic I can safely delete from the server (there's a lot up there!)
Thanks

Good so on my server I have all this lot
/cgi-bin (with lots in it)
/ubb (with lots in it, but not all cgi)
Can I safely delete those 2 folders and absolutely everything in them?
Thanks

If the files are no longer being used then yes you can safely remove them. The cgi-bin is not used by threads, but other scripts might use it.
It would be nice to actually have a script that could identify excess files.

Yeh, the /cgi-bin and /ubb folders where from UBB.Classic; if you're running threads then you don't need them... That is, unless you're using (or still using) the redirector scripts from when you migrated, in which case you can keep those and delete the other files.

Better check to see that that there aren't UBB cgi scripts in use. You could always back it up before deleting and keep the backup for a couple of days.
I tend to be a bit overly cautious when deleting stuff.

OK thanks. So other than that, I can get rid of all cgi files. Is that understanding correct?

Yes, as if you're using the redirectors, they bypass the other files.

I never had any luck with the /cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi redirect script -- Firefox tries downloading the file, and IE pops up annoying errors. But no problems with ultimatebb.php, the most important one for me.

Sounds like an issue with the server.

Yes If your browser is downloading a cgi file instead of executing it, there's an issue (or 3) with the server.

The original ultimatebb.cgi file works just fine, though No big deal, though - I don't mind the "We've Moved" page for nostalgic sake.

one common problem is that some servers presend the redirect type, so the cgi file will fail in that case (the redirector); i noticed this on several machines
