I have members unable to download files in the sub forum and I am unable to find out why this is happening.
Also as the admin I am unable to download as well from the sub forum. Has anyone had the same problem?

Is this 7.3? If so, do the groups have sufficient access in the forum permissions for their group to download items?

With v7.3, with the permission system, you can easily make it so even the admin group cannot do specific actions... including (i believe) downloading files...
From what it looks, you need to adjust permissions for the usergroups to be able to download from the specific forums.

What does "can't download" mean? Are you getting an error? does the browser time out? If there is an error what is the error? the more you can tell us about "can't download" the easier it is to give you a good answer.

Sometimes it times out other times it just has a message starting to download but nothing happens (I am using Firefox browser). Message that I am getting is "the source file could not be read. Try again later or contact the server administrator."
It is happening with all the files that members and myself are trying to download. The files are in the directory as I have checked that. I am just lost as to why this has happened since I have been trying to fix up the shout box issue.

That looks like threads is unable to contact the MySQL server - I would contact your host to see if they are having issues.

Ian,
It appears to be a problem with firefox because if I use the IE tab the file downloads and opens.
Someone has just told me that firefox has a few issues at present.
Thanks all for your help.

My version of FF is 2.0.0.14 but I am thinking it could be 7.3 myself now.

Oh okay - we have two issues here. I was referring to the database connection error.
Are you still getting errors connecting to the database server?

Ian, The error is in version 7.3 as I have no problems if I wish to download using the browser. It has to be in the permissions area that is causing all the problems not my web host. This is one of the links that I uploaded using the forum. It places the file in the uploads file and then when members click on the file link they get the message try again later or contact the server administrator.

Are you still getting errors connecting to the database server? Here is the error log and I am getting it on a regular basis each time someone tries to download one of the files that are uploaded I think. Script: - Line: Unable to connect to the database! - Can't connect to MySQL server on 'wic002my.server-sql.com' (10060)

That's not the UBB; it's the SQL Server not being connectible for that request.

Ian & Gizmo the host is telling me that it is about the same time as a backup is being performed is when I get the error. Myself I think that they are feeding a lot of bullshit.
I opened a ticket and Rick is having a look, maybe he will be able to sort out what is the problem.

It's plauseable, but doubtful... I mean, without knowing how they do their backups it's hard to say really... It could be process intensive...
Is it just a specific time period, from X and Y hour that you see slowdowns, and does it get faster after Y?

One vote from me against GoDaddy. I'm sure some people have good and some people have bad experiences with them. They've never hosted for me. The few times I've dealt with them on ohter issues, they lacked knowledge. I think they are for newbies taking their first steps into having their own site.

Heres another vote AGAINST using them as a webhost; they're great for domains, but they should leave hosting to larger companies which own datacenters vs trying to expand their market lol

Not into the "big names" for basic registrar services -- gkg.net for me. (Anything but NetSol, basically). But for hosting, no idea... still searching myself after 13 years! ASO support is A+, but that's about it for shared hosting. :/
GangsterBB.NET (Ver. 7.6.1.1) PHP Version 5.6.40 / MySQL 5.7.23-23 (was 5.6.41-84.1) / Apache 2.4.54 2007 Content Rulez Contest - Hon Mention UBB.classic 6.7.2 - RIP
