It looks like I cannot assign a "post count" condition for the default groups? (ie. I can't assign a post count for "Users").

Is that so, or am I missing something?

No because that is default.

I have users set to limited benefits - 1pm etc., and then a regular users group which people join after their 10th post.

if they already have more than 10 posts, they join this group after their next post.

Is there going to be some rather in-depth documentation to explain all of this kind of thing?

It is taking a while for me to get my head round it all.

Is that a "no" then?
It would surely help sales....

Thanks for your help by the way,

Ian I'm having problems getting my head around this. Could you just comment further please. Here's what I want....

New members, once approved, get put into a group that is not allowed to post in the Shout Box or send/receive PMs. Once a member has posted more than, say, 10 posts, then they are upgraded to the "normal" group (which I presume is Users).

I know it is probably really simple, my mind is just a bit frazzled right now and confused. How do I set the above up? (I believe you have similar).

Thank you

Okay....

Set up a new group - mine is called 'Regular Users' - give this group permissions like use shoutbox, send/receive PM's etc.

Set the post count of this group to 10.

Then remove permissions from the users group - I would suggest leaving the max PM's to 1.

Then when someone has made 10 posts they will get the permissions.

For existing users once they have made a single post then they will join the regular users group, as long as their post count is greater than 10.

I have also edited the error message when they try and use the shoutbox for example and do not have permission to explain this, so that I do not get any complaints.

Hi Ian

OK I think that makes sense.
But why "I would suggest leaving the max PM's to 1." -- why not 0, then they just won't be able to use them at all will they?

thank you

So that in the event of an issue they can at least PM you - also shows to a new user that PM's exist and that they can get extra benefits by making posts and becoming part of the community.

Oh and limiting new users is a good idea as some spammers only join a forum to spam others via PM system.

Yes I definitely want to limit new users.

If it is set to 1, I presume that they can delete the one then send another etc etc etc (?)

I'd rather they be set to 0 I think. (Oh aren't I strict)

They are unlikely to keep deleting their one PM. How does a new user contact you? If you annoy them too much they will just go elsewhere. It is a thin line.

I also send a comprehensive welcome PM explaining all this to new new users encouraging them to post and become and active part of the community.

OK this is really driving me nuts now.

USERS:

Total # of private topics allowed ⇑ -- set to 0
Max # of private topic participants ⇑ -- set to 0

So that they can't sent/receive PMs. (Right?)

I have it so that when someone posts 10 posts, they automatically get put into a group that allows PMs, lets call it Regular. Here's the settings:

REGULAR:
Total # of private topics allowed ⇑ -- set to 0
Max # of private topic participants ⇑ -- set to 0

OK.
Now I have another group, lets call them NO PMs.
When I put someone manually into this NO PMs group, I want to basically take away their PM rights and leave everything else like it is in REGULAR.

So how do I do that?
I know similar questions are above, but none of it seems to be working at all... they cannot send NEW PMs but they can receive PMs and are also allowrd to reply to PMs.

If someone could please help holding my hand telling me what to do I would be so happy!! arrrrggghh!

Thank you

Permission -1 is >- Not allowed which overrules any allowed.

I have tried setting NO PMs as follows:

REGULAR:
Total # of private topics allowed ⇑ -- set to -1
Max # of private topic participants ⇑ -- set to -1

Unfortunately it seems to allow people to still RECEIVE PMs and reply to them (though they are unable to CREATE NEW PMs).

I believe they are always able to accept PM's from admins (maybe mods) so that you can get in contact with them. Hence the reason why you would not want to remove PM's all togther.

RIght.

I have tried with a non-mod regular user account though, and it still seems to be getting through.

My mostest biggest greatest request for 7.4 is a really easy simple way to just simply turn off PMs cleanly.
