How can I make this box wider (e.g. 100 characters)?

Since the upgrade to the 7.3 my forum ignores the setting I've made under Display Options > General > Post/Reply Page Options: "Default Textarea Columns".

I can enter 100, or even leave this field empty, the text area never changes.
