When Registrations are in Queue does this mean the user has not responded to the verification email? I've been manually approving some when I catch them in Queue but its saying that their email isnt verified. Is this safe?

If you look at each member in the queue, you will see that it actually says whether the email has been verified or not (I believe it is a Yes or No against the "Email verified?" part.

What I do is wait until they have verified their email (so it saying Yes in that queue) before approving a new member.

Yeah I saw that and figured it was because they havent responded to the email yet, but I was wondering how risky it was pre-approving folks before they have checked that email. Thanks

Well it might well be spam-like stuff.

Just to be sure I wait until someone verifys their email before giving them access to our forums.

FWIW, I just use email verification, CAPTCHA (now with 7.3), and one email address per registrant. Knock on wood, with almost 5000 registered members over almost 7 years, I've never had any real spammers and never had to approve anyone beforehand. After all, you know nothing about the person when you're approving them anyway, so why bother with that step?

Because sometimes they are obvious spammers and/or quite obviously coming on to "advertise".

Whatever, it's a choice isn't it.
So it's good - we can decide which is best for us.

I have also never manually approved members and never will.

We also use the same system as jgeoff and have never had any real issues.

Any obvious spammers are unlikely to approve their email address.

Any genuine person who is going to manually spam is also going to look genuine and you will probably approve them.

If you are concerned then simply restrict new members until they reach say 10 posts or manually approve their first couple of posts.
