UBB.threads PHP Forum Software Community Forums UBB.threads 7 Version 7 Support Inserting Images from UBB Gallery?

The gallery is a nice new feature; however, it seems strange that forum users cannot insert the images hosted in the UBB Gallery into a standard thread (the way you would using the IMG command with an online host such as Photobucket).

This is one query I get from forum members all the time and I honestly don't have a good answer for why the UBB Gallery doesn't allow linking.

Can someone explain why the software is set up the way it is and why this 'feature' is missing?

it should be in there.. the regex for handling the img tag needed changing to be tolerant of the ? character..

also, i'm not sure, but if you have spider friendly on, it might already work...

OK, I've found a way of doing this. It's not ideal but it works. I'll use the Triumph thread as an example.

Right click the picture in that thread and select Properties and copy the URL:

https://www.ubbcentral.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showimage/id/1243/type/m/Bonnie2_jpg

Now change the /m/ to /f/ in the URL.

https://www.ubbcentral.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showimage/id/1243/type/f/Bonnie2_jpg

The code in the URL seems to be:

/t/ = thumbnail
/m/ = medium
/f/ = full

or just create a [gal] tag.. that takes the URL and/or ID of the picture

usage:

[gal]URL or ID[/gal]

and it generates the proper markup for you

I'm probably being thick but as my image properties don't end in [name].jpg , perhaps that is the issue?

No, you're correct. Because the URLs do not end in .jpg, .gif, etc. they will not display using UBB Code [img] tags.

The only way that they will display is by using HTML <img src=> tags.

As a matter of interest, (and please excuse my ignorance!), but why hasn't the forum software been set up so that you can easily insert images from the UBB gallery?

yes, it would make sense

Just a matter of only so many hours in a day and what take priority in coding I would think.

As time and testing permits I would assume that it will become available.

I understand that; however, (and obviously imho) while the gallery is a great addition, the key to making it a very useful part of the forum is missing (i.e the ability to link).

Perhaps my forum is quite picture 'rich', because of the topic; nevertheless, any forum life is made better by images linked to text-based threads, isn't it?
