I have one user who says she gets this error message when trying to post a reply to a topic on our board:

"the host from which you are accessing this board is not recognized as a valid host. This is more than a firewall issue that is blocking the referer variable. Check your firewall settings and try again."

Any idea what the problem could be?

Well, the message says it all. Check firewall settings. He probably has software that removes the referal that is used by ubb for security reasons.

Ask him or her if they are using Norton 360 or what ever it is, If they are then there is your problem.

I've just had an email with the same thing...

I'm having big problems posting mate. FF and IE7 both give a UBB error.

The host from which you are accessing the board is not recognized as a valid host. This is more than likely related to a firewall issue that is blocking the referer variable. Check your firewall settings and try again???

Surely he will be using a firewall. But why is this error happening only sometimes? This guy is a regular user.

I found this helpful post from Gizmo with several steps to try:
Post888321

I added the www variant of my site to the "Domains for HTTP Referer Check" field under Primary Settings/Advanced Options. We'll see if this helps my user out.

A new wrench to throw in the mess... It seems that BROWSERS also are starting to come out with the option to block the referrer variable; found one issue in FireFox lol... Although not "common"...

Interesting...

I just tweaked my settings to include a non-www version of my site.

ie http://www.example.com | http://example.com

But it stopped me from posting.

Did I miss something?
