7.2 Any reason anyone can think of for a single user to be making double posts? He's not a trouble maker or anything.
The only difference I can think of between him and most of my other users - is that he is located in the middle east.
The second post usually comes in 5 seconds behind the first.

Internet lag time, he is pressing the post button a second time as he thinks it did not work the first time and his post page did not appear yet so the server thinks it is a second post from that person.

But doesn't the submit key get disabled? It does for me but not for him apparently.

Its a Bug in 7.2 If its a sub forum and you get there via the Main Forum Index. Solution Go there to the post manually. Category -- Forum --- sub forum -- topic -- post (Now only one)

Nice one Mark But will he have to do this each time? Or once bookmarked, is that ok? I'd rather be able to give out correct info (as I can't test it myself)! Cheers.

He's not Double posting. Its a bug that makes the the first post on the new page look like a double post. Its not. Tell him to get there anyway they like but it if they go from the main index, the forums trick him in to it being a double post. Its not. I think the post numbers are identical as part of the bug so you can add it to your favourites

Ah well, he may not be double posting, but something is happening that causes each of his posts to display twice in a thread.
It could be anywhere in a thread, not just the start and I have to delete the post (it's not the 'appearance' of a post.)

If they have unique post id's then it's definitely a double post problem. In 7.2, we tried a method to prevent this that didn't always work so we switched things up a bit for either 7.2.1 or 7.2.2, can't remember off the top of my head.

I've deleted most of them... I'll get back to you next time this happens.
So, if they have different id's then he's double clicking right? But shouldn't the button be disabled?

We also see the occasional double post - not a major issue mind.

He's just posted again and there are 3 seperate post numbers ending in 349, 350 and 351.
I have to believe the guy when he's says he's not double posting as he's benefitting from the forum and wouldn't want to be banned.
Could this be anything to do with proxies & caching in the middle east?

Is he experiencing any errors or timeouts? In 7.2, it tried to disable the submit button with javascript, which didn't always work properly. In 7.2.2, it uses an md5 on the form to actually prevent it from being submitted again if he happens to double click, or if he gets a timeout on the submit and tries to refresh the browser.

He just posted and it resulted in around 300 posts! He said he'll stop until this is sorted.
He also says that when he clicks submit - things just hang for around 5 minutes then he gets a timeout message.
In the meantime - the action causes around 500 posts to be made.
I can't believe it's a forum issue (is it?) More likely a server issue?
In the meantime, how do I delete 300 odd posts without deleting the whole thread?

Wow. No real quick way to delete all of those posts, since they'd all be a reply to the one he's responding to, so you'd have to delete the one he was responding to as well if you wanted to do it in one shot.
Maybe have him give a different browser a shot, and see if it's common across two different browsers.

I moved them all into the admin area along with the post they were replying to. In the meantime, the guy whos inital post had been moved posted to say... Oi - where's my post!?!So I copied and pasted the 'moved' post back into his last post. Still following? I was hoping to renew my licence to go to 7.3. I'd rather not upgrade to 7.2.2 and then again to 7.3 - I prefer to upgrade as infrequently as possible :coward:

Did his post count go up too?
Did this happen in various topics the double posts? And the 300 posts are they in a time frame? (same time)? Is there any flood control settings to that user?
thinking out loud?

Did his post count go up too? Yes Did this happen in various topics the double posts? Yes And the 300 posts are they in a time frame? (same time)? Within a few seconds of each other - not the exact same time. Actually, after re-examining things - it looks like there are about 1 post/second. i.e. around 60 posts at 2.59pm then another 60 at 3pm then sixty more at 3.01 etc etc Is there any flood control settings to that user? Interesting you should mention that. I forgot it could be set outside of a global basis - I'll have to look into that. Please... keep thinking out loud

A virus on his machine or some software on his machine, as its only happening too him.
So i think its his machine only and not your server imo

Interesting thought Mark. Although I've not heard of such a virus, I don't see why there shouldn't be such a thing... The other variable of course, is that he's in the Arabian Gulf. They have all sorts of weird restrictions (and caching) in place out there.

Last night he posted using IE & FF and guess what? Yep - 1 post from each of them each time he tried.)
So if it's intermittent, perhaps it's a server or geographic issue?

I'm getting this with 7.3.1, and all the posts are the same ID.
So far its always the same user and it isn't just 1 or 2 posts, its hundreds of repeated posts.
