I run a game and a website for players to post. The problem is that I would like to limit users of the shoutbox to persons that play the game!
On the game server I can collect IP addresses of players that have played in the last N days. I could then export that list to my web server.
I would like to be able to specify a list of IP addresses to UBB that indicate ALLOWED posters.
Now, since UBB has this wonderful ‘Permission’ and ‘Group’ system, I would suggest making a new BUILT-IN group that allows the specification of these IP addresses. In this way, I could use this Group to allow or disallow actions like posting, shoutbox, etc.. UNLESS you were in the list of allowed IP addresses.

I just see an issue with using IP numbers. Most ISP companies provide dynamic IP's not static. So user A will not have the same IP one hour from now or tomorrow or the the next day. Myself I think my IP expires every 45 minutes for my home account.

I agree with Ruben on that one. Not a good method of control.
Though having access to Shout via group control might be possible.

Yeah, group control of shoutbox is already possible. (I use it today so that only Admins and mods have access.)
The IP idea works since it is updated as often as needed, say once per hour. My gameserver would take a snapshot of all IP addresses, then FTP them to the webserver for use.
IP address don't change as often as you think and they certainly don't change during a single web/gaming session. A user would need to restart their computer or their router for an IP update.
I mean if you think about it, it makes as much as an IP ban (which UBB already has.) What I'm proposing is to use the same notion for access control to features.

I can't really see this happening short of a commissioned modification... I can't think of too many users who'd have need for such strict permissions as to warrant IP tracking to that extreme...
