Hi,
Sometimes a discussion needs to be moved to a different thread. I use the move-function to change the post to a different thread. The problem I have is that these post still have the original title, and are quite confusing for the users and readers of the original thread. Is there an easy way to rename all the posts-titles to anything I want?

I recall there was a UBB DEV mod for this.

I did just add this in for 7.4.2. Changed it a bit so if you have any manage topic options then you'll get the option to rename.

I click the rename option under manage topic options, and it takes me right to a page that tells me the action is completed, and then I'm sent back to the topic...
So it doesn't actually let you rename it?...

Yea same here. When I select rename this topic it just displays action completed then takes me right back to the topic again.

Oh I see how it works now. If you edit the post and then edit the topic subject it will only rename the topic of the post you edited. If you want to rename all the replies then use the rename option.

Yes, that goes without saying, but how exactly does one go about using the rename option without just getting a shiny, happy, "Yea, sure, we changed the title *snicker*" page?

Read my post again. If say you have a post with three reply's and you edit the first post subject using the standard edit button. When you submit all the reply's still have the old subject title. Then if you use the rename feature it will rename the subject from the first post to all the reply's.
I don't know if I would ever use it unless there are pages of reply's

Oh, you have to first edit the initial post and rename the topic there. Then after editing it, you click the rename link and it renames according to what the first post is named? Oivay... it's not very straight-forward about how to do it. You would think clicking rename would take you to a place to rename.

I would vote to get rid of being to alter the subject in a reply completely. Topic starter sets the subject, period.

you'd prolly need it to be a board option, since i can hear others (threaded mode peeps in particular) who actually use that option.. baby/bathwater comes to mind

There must have been several people requesting this for it to be there to begin with. For myself I would probably never use it. The normal edit method meets my needs to correct a typo in the subject line on my own post after submitting.

i myself would definitely disable changing the topic, once it's done in the 1st post, because my forums are all flat mode.. there is not threaded mode to worry about..
but.. there are enough peeps who need a subject PER post to warrant at LEAST making it an option, imho

I guess it has its use. Like a post that wanders off topic and you split out the posts and make a new topic. But I would never do that either. Freedom of speech you know.
Now I have been know to delete a topic due to porn or what ever that is not allowed.

Well, if anyone really does feel the need to get rid of the ability to change the topic subject in a reply you would pop open your copy of templates/default/newreply.tpl and... find: {* NO SUBJECT FOR GALLERY REPLIES *}
{if !$is_gallery}
<tr>
<td class="alt-2">
<label for="Subject">{$lang.SUBJECT_TEXT}</label>
</td>
<td class="alt-1" valign="top">
<input type="text" name="Subject" id="Subject" maxlength="{$config.SUBJECT_LENGTH}" class="form-input" size="60" tabindex="1" value="{$Subject}" />
</td>
</tr>
{$iconselect}
{/if}
and replace it with: {* Begin Total Annihilation of Subject *}
{if $annihilated}
{* NO SUBJECT FOR GALLERY REPLIES *}
{if !$is_gallery}
<tr>
<td class="alt-2">
<label for="Subject">{$lang.SUBJECT_TEXT}</label>
</td>
<td class="alt-1" valign="top">
<input type="text" name="Subject" id="Subject" maxlength="{$config.SUBJECT_LENGTH}" class="form-input" size="60" tabindex="1" value="{$Subject}" />
</td>
</tr>
{$iconselect}
{/if}
{/if}
<input type="hidden" name="Subject" value="{$Subject}" />
{* End Total Annihiliation of Subject *}
then rip into templates/default/editpost.tpl... find: <tr>
<td class="alt-2">
<label for="Subject">{$lang.SUBJECT_TEXT}</label>
</td>
<td class="alt-1">
<input type="text" id="Subject" name="Subject" value="{$Subject}" maxlength="{$config.SUBJECT_LENGTH}" class="form-input" size="60" />
</td>
</tr>
and replace with: {* Begin Total Annihilation of Subject *}
{if $annihilated}
<tr>
<td class="alt-2">
<label for="Subject">{$lang.SUBJECT_TEXT}</label>
</td>
<td class="alt-1">
<input type="text" id="Subject" name="Subject" value="{$Subject}" maxlength="{$config.SUBJECT_LENGTH}" class="form-input" size="60" />
</td>
</tr>
{/if}
<input type="hidden" name="Subject" value="{$Subject}" />
{* End Total Annihilation of Subject *}

this seems to be turning into a mini-ubbdev.. i've always refrained from posting too much code mods @ central.. and instead put em over @ ubbdev..

Yeah, the thought had crossed my mind too. I just see a question and want to answer it -- not go some place else, post an answer to an "unasked" question, and post over here saying, "I answered your question over there."
Perhaps I'll document some of the better ones over at UBBDev. Whatever the Rick sayeth, is ultimately what will be doneth.

Well, if anyone really does feel the need to get rid of the ability to change the topic subject in a reply Yep, thought of that, even implemented that hack for a while, but then you still got the issue of mixed subjects when you merge topics. And yes, you can add the code there too to sync subjects after the merge, but still. Something in the codebase that just would look at post #1 would be my choice. Never got around to actually putting in a hack/mod myself

Don't take it as an insult it is nice to see some fresh enthusiasm. It is just that code modifications here in the past have been suggested by some to be posted at ubbdev. Besides after classic EOL I don't know php that well.

I too would love to see a method of disabling the topic from changing.... As a board option, so us flatmode people can have some sanity lol
