7.3.1

I've just had an anonymous unregistered user posting on my forum.
This has never happened before.

The forum permissions require that only registered users may post.

I've logged off and I can't see a reply button so I'm mystified as to how they did it.

Could it be a glitch where a registered user has posted but somehow been tagged as 'unregistered'?

confused

There appears to be an OLD glitch with FireFox and how the cookies are handled. A user with the proper permissions may post if logged out on the message board and it will appear as a non registered user.

I have reported this way back in 7.2.2

Cheers locky, that's a great weight off my mind.

Good to know it's nothing more sinister.

Thanks and FWIW - there's another 5* headed your way smile

I'm going to have to add a bit more code where the post is added to the database to try and fix this.

This happens in 7.5... was it fixed in a subsequent version?

Yeah, I have totally deleted cookies, and it still allows me to post as anonymous...

It's very hit and miss and hard to duplicate and fix. Personally, I've never been able to duplicate it no matter what browser I use and how many tabs I have open. But, I've worked on a few sites and think I know how/why it happens, so hope to have this addressed for version 8.

Yeah, I've opened Google Chrome and Internet Explorer, and they both now allow anonymous posting, as well as Firefox... cookies or no cookies. It's really weird that this has only just now popped up for me yesterday; I haven't changed anything. I've already had some spam because of it. Huge problem here...

Go check out my site and see for yourself. If you (Rick) need/want any more information or access, just let me know.

Can you PM me your login info or open a ticket. This really looks like some sort of permission issue.

Ok, found the issue. Your guest user was actually part of the Users group, not the Guest group. So anyone not logged in was getting user group permissions.

crazy Thanks Rick. I have no idea how that happened.

In my ubbt_USERS, member number 1 **DONOTDELETE** has their USER_MEMBERSHIP_LEVEL set to User still. Is this okay?
