Hi there,

To tel you the truth, I am facing many problems using UBBT with Smarty !!

See this topic

Now I am working to remove Smarty from UBBT , and I know it will be very big task , because I have change all scripts files plus all lib's files and change templates files !!! Very long way!!!

Now I need to know from the Developers these questions:

1. What is the best way to do this? Any special suggestion?

2. Any one have done it before ??

I appreciate your help .

Thank you
Bader AlNadabi

A big task indeed. A help would be to try to incorperate the generated compiled template. That's plain old php, so you could win in that department.

I also think it won't be necassary to completely remove it. If you remove if from the showflat/cfrm/postlist scripts, that's 99% of your forum traffic.

The best thing to do, would be to keep the smarty logic in place in the invidual scripts and then rewrite the library so it just fetches the template and does the replaces as necessary. This is what we'll probably end up doing actually at some point, possibly with the GUI update.

I think this is the main key, GUI update what most people here waiting for, but I am sure this will not be available for the next 3 months ...

my plan is to go back and do it like version 6, and I will remove every thing dealing with Smarty

Anyway, I will start from today, and I will let you know the results ...

Thank you for feedback.

What about that drop-in smarty-lite library? It may not get you all the way there but is possibly a big improvement over the current smarty.

Still looking at that one. It doesn't support everything we need, but it's close enough that I might be able to work with it.
